Pierre It was more a general comment rather than specifically directed.

Not closing the door on the option of a frontload washer as next daily driver but do have a few ques

If someone is ill ....simply wash bedding at 60c or whatever equivalent cycle.   You don't need any hotter. You're not dealing with contaminants that require disposal as hazardous waste for goodness sake.   I've said this before and I'm saying it again and whilst I don't subscribe to it -...

There’s a New Home Appliance Brand Coming to America

Bob... I don't understand why you're unimpressed? Currently I'd suggest you have nothing to be unimpressed about, having not laid eyes or hands on them nor had experience with owning one.   If anything, I'd have thought that testimonials from several AW members over the years would serve as...

There’s a New Home Appliance Brand Coming to America

Beko and Blomberg Right folks, I can speak from experience with this one.   Blomberg We had a Blomberg washing machine in the UK when we lived there. Bought new in 2001, it was a solid performer that didn't put a foot wrong. We considered bringing it back to Oz with us but in the end didn't...

    Volksgate: The Volkswagen 'scandal'

As an owner of a 2012 Skoda Superb TDi wagon (think Passat wagon, but better quality),  I am one of the people caught up in this shameful event.   However, VW will want to be very careful about how they address this issue. Should they do a recall or, in the course of servicing the car, run a...

    Persil at Kmart NYC/Mixing Detergents

You can't judge the overall perfume of a detergent until such time as it's been used through a load of laundry.

You Know You're A Member of AW When...

When you're in another country and catch up with a mate from another, completely unrelated forum....only to have it hit you like a bolt of lightening when you discover that you first 'knew' them off AW.org...   Trust me, it's freaky!

    Henkel buys Aussie C/P

OMO is made in NZ...where it is badged Persil.   Levers used to sell Persil in Oz, and I'm not sure why they changed the name to OMO in the 1960's.   Be great if we got some German detergent formulations. I won't miss Dynamo, Cold Power or basically anything else that CP make.

F and Paykel Merger With Whirlpool

Fisher and Paykel is owned by Chinese firm Haier. They may license the technology, which is doubtful, but I'd suggest a merger is even more unlikely.   In short - no - would be my summation.

front load washers not for humid basements?

I've never heard such rot.... .....relative humidity in coastal Northern NSW and Queensland is regularly higher than 70%   There are a couple of simple things that ALL people should do when using, or when finished using, a front load washing machine:   - wash one load a week in HOT water -...

    Unscientific Sink Survey

Is there any kind of consensus on what the most reliable FL washer is today?

...American fascination with laundering down filled duvets s I couldn't agree more.   With one exception, all of our quilts are a goose/duck down combination. They're expensive and not designed to be constantly washed.   Nor, should I add, do they need to be when used properly with covers...

Fisher and Paykel Washsmart Super Quick 15min Cycle.

Haier owns Fisher and Paykel now....having bought them in 2012.   An interesting tid-bit I just found out (gotta love Wikipedia) is that Haier started out making fridges using technology and equipment from Liebherr of Germany. Now, Liebherr is pronounced 'Li-bo-hai-er'......with the new...

question about vintage Suds Saver (50s-60s) machines

My mothers sud-saver laundry sink looks the same as that in the link below.   Basically, the wash water discharged via a dedicated hose into the tub (with plug in) whilst the stand pipe was connected to the bypass option closest to the washer so the rinse water could still empty. This was...

Sunbeam Deluxe Automatic Radiant Control Toaster

Pete You don't need an instruction manual....they're simplicity personified.   Best used with white bread. Set the control for about 1/3 and try. If toasting 2 slices, put in the left side first then the right. If toasting one, then just the right.   These are not 'cool' sided, so don't let...

    Heat Pumps

Al,   We have reverse cycle airconditioning both upstairs and downstairs in our house.   I'd almost bet my left one that if the radiators are in average to good condition, buying a new higher efficiency boiler will be simpler, cheaper and less troublesome than replacing an established system...
