Vintage Maytag washer and dryer! $150 · In stock Listed in Johnson City, TN

Nice! The washer looks like an A407 from 1975 or very early ‘76. Thatwasherguy.

    Advice please

You can probably get away with sanding it. That plastic is pretty soft, so it shouldn’t be too hard to do. Thatwasherguy.

    Who uses which compressor nowadays?

Fridge compressors... Most of what I've seen in today's systems are generic Chinese compressors. I've got one in a dead dehumidifier that doesn't even have a name on it! Long gone are the days whenever Panasonic, Tecumseh, Embraco, and Copeland were the norm. Thatwasherguy.

    Heads Up Maytag Guys

Thanks for the heads up Launderess!! I’ll have to see if the auction company will be willing to work with a shipping company, such as UPS. If they will, I think I’ll try and get these for my collection. Thatwasherguy.

Some questions about old U.S.A. made fridges

Thanks for the kind words! You guys built some pretty interesting fridges yourselves! I've got what I believe to be a Zanussi built Frigidaire Imperial 43 mini fridge (made in Spain) from the 70's that I am quite fond of. I'm not sure about all of your questions, but I can answer about the...

Strange fridge compressor failure - Embraco...

That’s officially the strangest thing I’ve seen today... I would have never in a million years thought of the connector on the inside coming loose from the pins. Is it possible that it wasn’t installed all the way at the factory, and worked itself loose over the years? Thanks for another...

    Bob's Lady Shredmore

RyneR... This is an older direct drive from the late 1980’s to early 1990’s. It’s cycle labels are cotton/sturdy, permanent press, knit/delicate, and pre-soak/pre-wash. It has the later black-on-black and woodgrain control panel with the main control knob moved to the right, rather than in...

Center Dial Maytags - Atlanta Area North

What kind of shape is the belt in? In the past, I've also seen a worn belt that was starting to come apart smack against the inside of the machine, and create a very similar symptom. Hope this helps, Thatwasherguy.

Maytag set saved from the landfill

Congrats on those machines! I have that exact set (A208 washer and DE408 dryer) from 1978 in my collection, and they are my pride and joy. They were produced sometime from 1976 to 1980 (your serial numbers can be decoded for an exact date). In terms of maintenance items, the damper pads (the...

    4-11, 8-track tape day...

I love 8 track tapes too! First one I ever listened to was a recording of Elvis Presley’s ‘Aloha From Hawaii’ concert, preformed on Honolulu in 1973. I’ve still got that tape, and it’s my favorite out of all of them. Always love to hear the pronounced “KA-CHUNK” of the solenoid switching the...

    Vintage french door refrigerator?

Hey everyone. Hope you are all well. A while back, I came across a facebook marketplace ad for a really strange refrigerator. It appeared to be from the 1970’s or 80’s, being in almond, with the blocky handles that were trendy at the time. However, it was a french door, bottom freezer, much...

    70’s Harvest Gold Maytag HA107

Congrats on your acquisition! According to the serial number, your machine was manufactured in August of 1975. It appears to be in very good condition from the pictures. As for the oil, I’m guessing that it probably came from the brake package while the machine was tipped over (these machines...

    Transmission lubricant

Based on the description Launderess gave... I'd say that the wringer head likely is using NLGI #2 grease, and that the transmission is likely using a non-detergent oil of some kind. I believe Maytag's oil was 90 weight if I remember right. Both of these things should be readily available at...

You're Probably Doing Laundry All Together Wrong

Generally... I use just enough detergent to create a tiny layer of suds that cover around 25% of the water’s surface once the machine is agitating, and then stop there (around 1/3 cup of powder, give or take). I’ve found this approach works great in my 2017 Speed Queen top loader. However...

if you had a laundry room like this what vintage washer dryer would you put and what color?

    I'd have... A 1976 Maytag A108 and DE406 in avocado green. Thatwasherguy.

    The Super Direct Drive project

Sounds like a neat project! I particularly like the flow through heater idea. Is the machine going to have a thermostatic hold as well, like a dishwasher? I’ve been convinced of the effectiveness of temperature boost systems in washers ever since I was lucky enough to get to wash my whites in...

Newer Speed Queen TW01 with issues

Welcome to the forum! It sounds to me like the timer has failed, and is no longer advancing. You can check the manufacture date by looking at the first four digits of the serial number. The first two digits of the number indicate the year, while the second two indicate the month. My Speed...

Two maytags up for grabs - vic Australia

Nice save!! Those look like fun machines to fix up. Are they both pitman transmissions? As for the tub seal, I remember another member in AU stating not too long ago that they had one NOS that they wanted to sell (Adam-Aussie-Vac IIRC). Thatwasherguy.
