Two stunning washers for my twinnie collection

Coronet How very interesting that you have managed to get this machine, I wonder if it could have been an "import special" as sometimes happened with other UK manufactured appliances. As Austin says, this machine is a direct descendant of the Rolls machines which were on sale here from around...

My UK (please note locals) Hotpoint Washer/Dryer is on the fritz…

AEG That seemed like a good deal, I hope you get a lot of use out of it :) I am guessing you will be looking for a dryer now as well - although you will probably need to go vintage vented to get something like the speeds you are accustomed to although the capacity maybe more limited. Heat pumps...

Vintage UK Hoover film on twintubs, vacuum, polisher & iron

That particular English Electric machine was not introduced until the mid 1960s - yes there was a Liberator washer from 1960 just not this one! The earlier model had the programme dial and programme selector on the front, not the top also had a door resembling that of the Westinghouse Space Mate...

I've wanted one of these for years...

Constellation Congratulations, it sounds like these are quite rare in Australia whereas they are still quite common here in the UK. I understand these were assembled from kits supplied by Hoover in North Canton, rather than from the UK. It is interesting that the Australian Constellations...

    Show me your Semis

Zanussi I am glad you mentioned that Louis as I thought some later machines that I saw on YouTube had a strong resemblance to Zanussi both in looks and sound. I thought the wash action of the Castor interesting, reminding me somewhat of many more modern machines

    Show me your Semis

This came up last night when I was looking for something else - strikes me that it would count as a semi-auto. An Italian Castor machine from 1950

Not mine but belonging to a friend Adam If you check out the thread linked below you will see a good selection of Semi-autos from the UK. There are also links to videos on there. I understand that the older Bendix models (the cream ones) are all semi-autos. Both of the Parnalls shown in Reply...

20 cake recipes with a definite British bent to them

They are interesting recipes but I would only have classed 17, 18 & 20 as particularly traditionally British, actually I would have said several were more American :) If anyone sees something in the ingredients that is not familiar, post to this thread and we can see if we can do a...

Ma & Pa Kettle - which washing machine

This film clip showed up in my YouTube feed today. The washer looks to me like a Thor, but the name badge on the machine looks like an "A" to me. Any ideas which machine this is? Al PS I always did like Marjorie Main :)

    Remembering Hoover "Electron1100" Gary Tibbals

Gary I was so sad to hear of Gary's passing - one of the most down to earth charactors you could ever hope to meet but really good hearted as well. With his health issues he has not been active on here is recent years but looking back on his 1650 postings they are all hallmarked with passion...
