    Whirlpool power of the surgilater...

My old Maytag A482 with it's blue agitator and helical drive transmission does a fantastic job on anything thrown into it.

REPOST - When did GE start to go bad?

GE used to have a worthy saying about their company products... "GE, we bring good things to life" Seems that phrase is worthless these days.

Both my Speed Queen units stop working I don't know what I'm missing or doing wrong - Please help.

Ya beat me to it, because I was gonna suggest the same thing. It's good to go over the breakers in the main box by turning each one off, and while OFF to Carefully tighten/snug up the romex locking screws to make sure there's no chance for a faulty connection. However, if the breaker has an...

REPOST - When did GE start to go bad?

Well, last July 4th 2024, with weeks of 100+ degrees here in Philly, my 18 year old, mildy used "GE" (LG guts) decided to fail one day. I originally paid $325 for it, and an 18,000 BTU today cost over double that. A cheap spade lug on the compressor's "start" terminal decided to corrode and...

REPOST - When did GE start to go bad?

My parents got a 1962 GE "Thinline" window AC that lasted up to 1987, after decades of heavy summertime use. Try that today from a GE AC unit ! (with made in china guts made by LG)

    Home Emergency Lights

I've gotten those Mister Beams lights, inexpensive, common battery-operated lights. They make motion triggered lights, night lights, etc. Both indoor and outdoor types. So far so good after 8 years use.

Is there a decent washing machine (TL/FL) available from Home Depot for under $1k?

Indeed! Greed is just about everywhere these days. My neighbor had a new-fangled central air conditioner system installed about 3 years ago. The brand is one of those Australian companies, Daikin I think. Anyhow, it took 2 days for them to do the install of 3 room units and the outdoor...

When did Maytag start to go bad?

I don't like, nor listen to that "AI" crap. I prefer to be Old School and talk to real humans.

Is there a decent washing machine (TL/FL) available from Home Depot for under $1k?

For about 12 bucks, it's cheap insurance to install a screen covered louvered vent. I did, and am pleased with it. Louvered to keep out bugs and cold winter drafts, and screened to keep out birds from hiding junk in the duct.

Both my Speed Queen units stop working I don't know what I'm missing or doing wrong - Please help.

I've seen those recessed wall outlet boxes with both types of receptacles... with both being fed from one Romex cable, and one dual breaker. The 120v using the "half side" of the 240v feed and ground. So nothing is entirely "expected" in my opinion. Such a wiring job is not to electrical code...

Is there a decent washing machine (TL/FL) available from Home Depot for under $1k?

I remember the days when products were assembled and held together with screws, bolts, real metal brackets, etc. And it was fairly easy to service those products. In my shop, stuff made since the 1980s started to be made cheaper, using those snap-in plastic supports/standoffs, holding down the...

Both my Speed Queen units stop working I don't know what I'm missing or doing wrong - Please help.

Plug a lamp into the washer's AC outlet and see if it lights up. Those units should be on seperate breakers, because if both are running, they'll draw an enormous 36+ amps total if on the same breaker. I'd inspect the breaker panel and recepticals for questionable wiring. (danger)

    The Maytag Dependable Cars

Indeed, the truth! My A482 has the helical drive, and when I moved into this house in 2005, I inspected the internals, and again about 8 years ago. Everything internal is fine, no leaks, no oil drips.... solid. It could use some new hot-cold supply hoses, but I'll get around to that eventually. 😶

Is there a decent washing machine (TL/FL) available from Home Depot for under $1k?

Jaded??? Hardly! - you don't know me. First off, I'm not one to believe everything that I read "online". That is for the masses that tend to be gullible. And having face-to-face personal conversations with District Managers from large corporations, primarily in the Home Entertainment business...

    The Maytag Dependable Cars

That's why I'm clinging to my old 1985 Maytag A482 and matching dryer. All original, never been serviced, and runs like a charm.

1954 GE Special J404 Range - ISO Service Manual

That's the same GE range that was in my parents house when we moved in back in 1967, Mom hated it because she liked gas ranges. I remember as a teen of 15 playing with those pushbutton burner level switches. However, it eventually crapped out when the heating elements failed. The replacement...

Is there a decent washing machine (TL/FL) available from Home Depot for under $1k?

I used to believe in the Consumer Reports ratings. The same goes for those HiFi magazines with independent reviews of consumer stereo products. They used to be accurate, reliable. But these days, I don't bother with them. I've found that they've been "bought", corrupted, by the manufacturers in...

    Home Emergency Lights

Since this thread is mostly about Chinese Manufactured products, I'll toss in my own findings, which shouldn't surprise anyone. China manufacturers rely on superficiality - the "visual effect", to increase the desire for unsuspecting customers to purchase something. They also enhance things in...
