When did Whirlpool start go to bad?

The Maytag's a helical drive 1984 model. (180 degree agitation?) Two belts underneath the base - main one, and a pump belt.

RCA On The Move - 16mm Film

Thank you, that was an excellent video! I'm an old RCA Victor fan, and adore the the quality put into their vintage products. My parents had a 1961 RCA Victor 23 inch B/W console that lasted decades. And now I've got a 1963 console stereo that amazes my houseguests, along with a couple of 45...

When did Whirlpool start go to bad?

What do guys think about a Kenmore (whirlpool) compact apartment sized model 110.8441100 (direct drive heavy duty) I figure it's about a mid-80's model, with the corkscrew 2 section agitator. I got it cheap in the 90's to use in my apartment back then, and all I ever had to replace are those...

Evolution of H-Axis Washing Machines From Semi to Fully Automatic

A washing cycle of 3 hours? Besides wear and tear on fabrics........ what about the electrical energy used for those 3 hours? Doesn't that go against any "Energy Savings" that are always touted about new products? My old 1984 Maytag does a large load in a half-hour!

Almost brand new Whirlpool washer with bad control board

Hi maytaglover68! I really enjoy your posts, very informative. I gather that you're an appliance repair servicer? And that you're in Philly too. I'm in the Mayfair section, and retired now from decades of servicing tv/stereo/etc. - basically all types of home entertainment products. I could go...

Wanted: good old kitchen aid washer

Last November, my neighbor across the driveway tossed out a 4 year old Samsung washer AND matching dryer. Both were deemed by a serviceman as not worth repairing, parts not available. Only Four Years Old!.... and the washer alone sold for $700. too. I'm sure you've heard about the story of a...

I knew these bright white LED’s would come out and get put somewhere

Yes, I've also had good luck with the Sylvania LED bulbs. In addition, for the past 20 years now, I've had a pair of Sylvania "Daylight" incandescent bulbs in the fixture above the bathroom mirror with no intention to change them. Because I'm curious to see how long they'll last.

I knew these bright white LED’s would come out and get put somewhere

Well, honestly, good luck with those Feit bulbs. However, I'll stick to the name brands that have been around for a long time. All one has to do is a simple check of Feit reviews on sites like Consumer Reports, Better Business Bureau, Costco, etc. Tons of annoyed customers complaints is enough...

    Vintage Appliance Advertisements: Part Thirty

I can do you one better - I've got a pristine RCA Victor 45 player with the optional carry case. Of course it's been restored by me along with making some minor modifications. I did countless 45 players at the shop over the years, however the parts for a proper restoration amount to $100 or so.

    Vintage Appliance Advertisements: Part Thirty

Hiya again suds. All I can tell you is that from 1991 up to 2016, when I finally retired from the last repair shop I slaved over for those 25 years, I've worked on virtually every brand name (A-to-Z) that came in the door. I specialized on Vintage Restorations, since there wasn't many of us...

    Vintage Appliance Advertisements: Part Thirty

Hi suds! What I can tell you is that Capitol indeed sold stereos but they were manufactured for them by another company. Possibly VM, or Admiral, maybe GE, not sure of the exact brand, it's been years since I worked on one.

-WANT TO BUY- Frigidaire fold-back range unit (stove top)

From what I've seen, they've been "recalled" due to fire and burn issues, and turning on unexpectedly. And if 16 gauge wiring is used, I certainly don't think that's up to current electrical code standards these days. You can certainly have these potential hazzards in your home, not me.

Estate sale find: 1977 GE Electric range in Avocado

Ahh... those "vintage days" gone by.... almost! As much as the new generation has bought into the current hype of stainless steel, wireless digital appliances and their apps, it's comforting to know there's a bunch of nostalgia nuts besides me that remain steadfast in "the good old days". When...

-WANT TO BUY- Frigidaire fold-back range unit (stove top)

Yes it is. To power those high-current electric burners, they'd have to have large cables, which over time and flexing would become compromised-weakened. You can only bend wires so many times before they start to break.

-WANT TO BUY- Frigidaire fold-back range unit (stove top)

While this "fold up" unique style of an electric cooking stove may be attractive, one has to wonder how safe and reliable it is. First off, since the burners are pivoted units, they must have some flexible electric connections, wires?, that over time can become faulty or loose from repeated...

Improving Top Loader Washer Performance Via Intermediate Soaks

That's a good piece of information to know... And that's also a great reason for me to hang onto my 40 year old Maytag that doesn't have all that crappy electronic brain stuff. The "old style" mechanical timer and mechanical switches/knobs allow me, not some appliance designer, to have some say...

Evolution of H-Axis Washing Machines From Semi to Fully Automatic

I've seen mixed reviews of that brand.

Evolution of H-Axis Washing Machines From Semi to Fully Automatic

Maybe I missed something, I haven't checked every post here, but has anyone heard of the Staber washers? A horizontal drum top-load machine made in America. They have commercial, as well as residential models. https://www.staber.com/residential-clothes-washers

    new tide original scent

I hear ya on the smell stuff. I suppose that different people like different odors, it's human nature of course, but chemical odors do tend to annoy me. The same goes for flavoring of products. I'd sure with that Pepsi would go back permanantly to their smoother tasting original "real sugar"...

    Need Some Help Identifying Dishwasher

Yes, my friend basically is more interested in having his kitchen remodeled and is going to look at some older-than-new dishwashers. Besides, that Hotpoint doesn't have an upper spray arm anyway.
