I knew these bright white LED’s would come out and get put somewhere

I, along with my friends, have learned that if going to LED lighting, to only buy quality brands like GE, Sylvania, Philips or Cree. My neighbor bout those "Feil" brand LEDS and they don't last with a crap. Stay away from those cheap brands. I've got a Philips 15 watt LED in the a dining room...

    Thoughts on modifying my KDS-21?

Indeed, I love my KD19! However, I'll add that if working around the main motor, they were originally assembled "dry", using just the simple clamping force of the pump housing to seal against the outer gasket and upper spray hose connection. Same goes for the drain hose-to-drain valve. The minor...

I've heard plenty of horror stories about those contraptions!

    GE Presents: Quiet Trash - 1969 - 16mm Film

It's actually not "amazing" that those compactors are no longer desired. Think about this for a moment... Today, local governments and city regulations, incuding trash services, mandate recycling programs. - and fines if not followed. And also, this video dosen't make a mention about the weight...

A fee to dump recycleable stuff? Greed lurks everywhere.

That Pansonic would be a quick fix for me! It's due to a simple inexpensive capacitor in the deflection circuitry. No big deal, at my old shop you'd wind up paying $49 for the part and labor, and likely get another 10 to 20 years more use from it.

Thanks vac! That clears things up, I was curious about reviews, which most people don't spend time to check out. I certainly DO check reviews on anything I might purchase. And I look at the negative (one star) reviews First! Just like when I worked at the shop - the brands of tv sets, etc that...

Improving Top Loader Washer Performance Via Intermediate Soaks

People I know that have the front loader washers always had problems with them. Leaking door seals, coins winding up in the drain pump tearing up the impeller, drum bearings going bad, etc. My neighbor's got a Bosch stackable set, swore to it as the best..... until things started going wrong...

Here in Philly, we're pounded with those Generac tv commecials, so annoying, as is any commercial. The general weather here is nowhere near as violent as out west.. Kansas, etc., or Florida's hurricanes. One part of the commercial shows a husband out in a rain storm with a gasoline generator...

Before Walmart, Target and Kmart, there was Sage's Complete Shopping

Sounds nice, vac. My equipment is also tucked out of sight in a cabinet. Stereo components in one tower cabinet, the video and DVD stuff in a matching lowboy cabinet under the tv set. The benefit of that is that it keeps them relatively dust free, and with the smoked glass doors I can still use...

Before Walmart, Target and Kmart, there was Sage's Complete Shopping

While working at audio salons and stores, I got the impression that most people wanted something nice, but simple to operate, and didn't require a lot of room. Thus the 2 channel stereo's were popular over the fancy knob-loaded quad stuff. People grew up with console stereos through the 60s and...

LOL! that's funny! Actually, Quad was just another advertizing gimic to entice customers to spend money. - typical Marketing tactics. The same thing goes for Surround Sound today. Listen, I have my stereo system connected to my tv, and I'm satisfied with having 2-channel audio for watching...

Before Walmart, Target and Kmart, there was Sage's Complete Shopping

When I was a young 20 something lad in 1973, I worked my azz off to save for my first car. - two jobs, day job as a QC inspecter at a factory, and evenings at Penn Electronics, a parts and hifi store. Half the store was laid out as a "boutique audio salon", with all the popular brands of stereo...

    NYT on Induction Cooking

People I know have tried the induction cooking stuff, and were not impressed. Even those glass top electric stoves are questionable. I use gas, and not concerned with any so-called dangerous fumes, open a window for god sakes. While my stove has electronic ignition, even if I had a power failure...

Seven-Segment LED, colors that seem to be in and out of fashion

WOW! That's the same GE model that has adorned my bedside table, and still does, since I bought it ($49.95) back in 1985. Never had a problem with it yet. Consumer reports rated it a top model too. Here is a current pic of it....

Before Walmart, Target and Kmart, there was Sage's Complete Shopping

LOL, the mention of those drugstore "tube testers" reminds me of the early greed that some stores had.... Those "do it yourself" tube testers were rigged with a secret "behind the counter" switch that the salesmen could activate, making the tester show tubes as being bad. Naturally this...

GE Monogram DW - Is it getting enough water?

Well, my neighbor's machine was 13 years old when he got it. Being in nice physical condition for the price, he wanted it to match his Monogram fridge and Kenmore range, all in that stainless steel face look. Besides, after spending lots on tearing apart and remodeling the kitchen, it was a...

GE Monogram DW - Is it getting enough water?

About 10 years ago, my neighbor picked up a similar GE Monogram dishwasher. It was a used model, and was told that it works. Well, my neighbor completely remodeled his kitchen, floor to ceiling. Surprise, when he initially tested the machine, it wouldn't do anything, even though the led's on the...

    Hot Wash Cold Rinse Cycle?

I can appreciate all the above posts on this subject! I love my old 1984 vintage Maytag A482, however it's one of those with a "cold only" rinse provision. After attempting to locate a schematic for this specific machine, I'm going to inspect the control panel temp switch and associated wiring...
