How long do cordless phone sets last?

I was just reading this thread and was touched by the reason for wanting to keep the old answering machine. Could you play the outgoing message and record it as a voice note on your mobile phone. That way you’ve got it in another format to hopefully keep forever.

    New dishwasher Maytag or Miele?

@appnut it’s always been my philosophy that 1. It’s designed to do the job for me, if I have to do half the work for it there’s little point in it. And 2. I’d rather occasionally clean up a tiny bit of residue from an otherwise clean casserole or baking dish than get my hands dirty trying to...

    New dishwasher Maytag or Miele?

Everyone’s experiences vary of course, but in the uk we’ve not had exposed heating elements or choppers for 30-40 years and I can honestly say I’ve never had any issues. I put utterly filthy dishes into my dishwasher, if there’s some spaghetti or a few peas I don’t worry. I never, ever rinse...

    Sunbeam Hot Shot

You guys have obviously nailed it over there. My experience harked back to the Philips Tea for Two, the only appliance we had in a similar vein to the HotShot. It most certainly didn’t get close to boiling and made the most revolting tea!!

    Sunbeam Hot Shot

Gadgets like that never get the water as hot as an electric kettle. Probably okay for hot chocolate but for tea, undrinkable. Nobody microwaves water in the uk, it’s just unheard of, you will find an electric kettle in every single kitchen, I’m always fascinated by these little cultural...

Removing front plate from dispenser drawer on Miele washer?

I’d say there is a lug at the bottom which would need pushing in with a flat head screwdriver.

    Swedish Kitchen Advert - 1973

Vacbear I think you are right! I think I’ve got every Which edition that tested dishwashers since 1959(they are my appliance of greatest interest) I’ll have to dig them out and see what I can find.

    Swedish Kitchen Advert - 1973

I’m afraid I don’t know, but I have a feeling they were sold here. Full sized Asea and Asko dishwashers certainly were at high end shops like Selfridges.

    Swedish Kitchen Advert - 1973

@foraloysius yes it was very sturdy, I paid about £15 for it at an auction. It was probably 10-15 years old already, but was in great condition. I actually bought it as a gift for my first bf, I know it was still going strong some years later. I keep an eye out on EBay, cos I’d love another...

    Swedish Kitchen Advert - 1973

Years ago I bought an 80s version of that Asko compact dishwasher at an auction. It was fantastic, the door popped open at the end exactly like my TOL Miele now! It had fantastic capacity for a tabletop dishwasher. I’d love to get my hands on one again.

    Wall oven below cooktop?

In Europe they don’t tend to be known as wall ovens, they are simply referred to as single ovens. As such they can be installed anywhere that suits the kitchen/user. Also, European ovens are 24” as standard, and if installed under counter the filler panel, certainly in the uk anyway, is...

    Need Help! Panel Dishwasher deepness

Hi there, I’m not able to be massively helpful other than to say that this type of dishwasher has been commonplace in Europe for about 30 years, and always installs flush with no additional fiddling around behind the machine. So I guess I would agree with the above poster that looking at a...

Do Any garbage Disposals Have "Sharp blades"?

Hi Austin, I was hoping you’d give some feedback on your new disposal. The difference between a budget disposal and the TOL is night and day isn’t it! And as a disposal only does one job it pays to have one that does that job superbly!

Do Any garbage Disposals Have "Sharp blades"?

Hi Austin, get the most powerful ISE you can. We’ve got the ISE 75, I think it’s replaced by the Evolution range now as it’s years old. Everything, and I do mean everything goes down it without missing a beat. Yesterday it ate the turkey carcass, as it has done every Christmas, and it routinely...

    Who knows about countertop dishwashers?

I have a Bosch countertop dishwasher in the kitchen of my home hairdressing salon for the coffee cups, couldn’t manage without it, and on occasion, such as Christmas or entertaining we use it for overflow from the main kitchen. Works great, the 20 minute cycle is perfect for the coffee cups and...

    Miele CapDosing

Hi Guys, I wonder if any of you Miele experts can help me? So, I’ve had my twindos 2-3 years and about a year or so ago there was an extended period when the cartridges were on back order at Miele. Upshot being that I’d already run out and got the “run maintenance” message. I tried filling an...

Miele TWF640 - My new dryer

I just bought that exact dryer too a couple of weeks ago to replace a 10yr old vented Miele. I dry 10-14 loads a week so I decided a heat-pump would probably pay for itself eventually. I’m very pleased with it so far, but it did take a bit of getting used to that initial damp feeling you mention...
