No Consumer Speed Queen Front Loaders in 2018??

With the rest of the industry largely moving to cold-fill-only (or having done so years ago), only using onboard heating, I cannot understand Alliance's no-heater stance. They're losing out on sales as a result. Also, why are they still only doing a 27" line? Granted, I'm in the UK and they...

    POD 01/12/2017 - Bendix 30" Tumble Action soft-mount washer

Launderess - see Miele 421 of the mid-to-late 1960s (this one has the 420's 4-paddle drum, the 421S got a 3-paddle drum that was carried over into the first of the modern 60cm models of the 70s), three intermediate spins plus a final spin at the end. Likewise this AEG Lavamat Nova of similar...

    POD 01/12/2017 - Bendix 30" Tumble Action soft-mount washer

Phosphate use in agriculture is also on the decline here as more people become more environmentally conscious. Buying organic is now mainstream. Liquid chlorine bleach is known to kill fish and other waterborne wildlife - there was a big leak in my local river, albeit some miles upstream, killed...

    POD 01/12/2017 - Bendix 30" Tumble Action soft-mount washer

It has to be said, I rarely need to top up the water level on my 2005-vintage Miele, the 'Water Plus' option is quite enough... for heavier loads (stuff like big bulky bedspreads), I will use either the Delicates 40 wash or the Separate Rinse to fill it before selecting whatever cycle I use...

    POD 01/12/2017 - Bendix 30" Tumble Action soft-mount washer

Norgeway, that's an idiotic statement. Go back through the great European automatic machines of the 1950s through to the present - stuff like the AEG Lavamat Regina, the Miele W421S, the old Constructas and so on. They all use loads of water, a lot of heat, and don't tangle the hell out of...

    POD 01/12/2017 - Bendix 30" Tumble Action soft-mount washer

I'm guessing this is essentially a Duomatic, slimmed down six inches and deprived of the drying side? There is a very similar machine in the collection of "chestermikeuk", I believe badged as a Gyramatic. His has no heater, apparently, and spins at 600rpm. I wonder why these spun at 525rpm when...

    New FL Washer Suggestions.

No reason why Miele shouldn't fit, 36.5" is 92.7cm, most Mieles are 85cm tall, although the Octoplus machines are 1020mm tall, pretty much the same size as the FL Speed Queens.

    Fred Maytag

Bruce Lucenta was going off on holiday, so I was told, although he'd warned the forum some months ago that his work patterns were changing and would preclude his starting POD threads henceforth. However, he has now been banned for the forum for repeated offences, apparently relating to his...

    POD/Combo

How good was/is the Speed Queen combo? I think it's a 27" or 29". There was a second-generation Duomatic that came in '59, I believe, which was badged "LTA" on the UK-built examples. I don't think we got any of the earlier 50s combos, although "chestermikeuk" has a 30" Bendix Gyramatic washer.

now this is a rare sight

Not true... there were some (Lavamat 2000, 2003...) which were based on AEG's in-house washing-machine designs with the door mounted directly to the tub. These were also rebadged for Neff, and possibly some others (e.g. Zanker)...

I still need to find one part but I’m getting close to have a matching pair!

Non-vented - so I take it these old Frigidaires are condensing?

    POD - 11/26/17 Westinghouse FL

The Westinghouses in one form or another continued to be sold right up until the Electrolux takeover of WCI, didn't they? Hardly such a horrible failure. It could be argued that the oscillating agitator design was a technological dead-end derived from the old wringers - the only ones that really...

New Maytag commercial top load washer video.

Does this have a proper transmission or just a reversing motor? I'm not sure why Maytag are making this when the commercial world has largely moved to front-loaders, especially this side of the Atlantic.

    POD 21/11/2017 ?

I don't know if Duomatics were made in the UK at all. Chestermikeuk has a Gyramatic, and somebody else has an LTA, which appears to be a Mk2 27" Duomatic in all but name, but the old 36" Duomatics seem not to exist in the UK...

    POD 21/11/2017 ?

Hate to be picky - but the Speed Queen combo spins 10 rpm faster than a Duomatic. 515rpm vs 505.

    POD 21/11/2017 ?

Did anyone see it? I was away from the computer all day. Where's Bruce Lucenta when you need him...

    Gas or Electric Halo-of-heat

I know nothing much about Maytag, but I would never use a gas dryer. Electric dryers are easier to hook-up, they're considerably safer, don't require constant maintenance to avoid fires (although one does of course take care of the lint filter), don't fill your home with carbon monoxide fumes...

1970s UK Catalogues - Washer Pages

OK... so was the Flatley washer a clone of the Hoover impeller (i.e. Hoovermatic minus the spin can) or a front-loader?

    POD 18/11/2017 (Bendix Duomatic/Gyramatic)

Always good to see more info on the big 50s Bendixes. I know of at least one 30" Gyramatic in a collection (chestermikeuk's), and obviously there are a few Duomatics around, but what about the dryer? Do any examples survive? Were they vented or condensing? I seem to recall reading that the early...

1970s UK Catalogues - Washer Pages

Do you have the original paper copies? Would be nice to have high-resolution images so we could read the text. What's that Hoover top-loading dryer thing, anyone ever seen one? Out of the automatic washing machines, I'll take a Creda 10500 and a Bendix 7147... maybe a Keymatic 3243H...
