    Imperial fridge

That Imperial font sure looks like one of the Western Auto advertisements from the late 50s. Given the cold plate design, this was not a WP (they used the open coils like GE). Was there another "auto" store in Texas, perhaps? White Auto? OTASCO? that would have utilized the "Imperial" model...

Whirlpool VMW washer and auto sense

Thank you for this---I really have few things that I'd call delicate---will do Heavy Duty on all loads but bedsheets--for those, Bulky.

    A tale of two P&G detergents…

I had trouble getting subtitles--does that mean load it until one more piece will fall to the floor?

Whirlpool VMW washer and auto sense

I have been getting increasingly disenchanted with the autosense in the Amana I've commented on before. It does well with graphic t-shirts and cotton knit fabrics (underwear), turning them over nicely in a smallish pool (tbh less water than I'd use if I had a water level control...

Vintage 1972 home with two kitchens

Area/neighborhood is likely fine, region is a bit depressed (de-industrialization). Price is pretty fair, all things considered but it is going to be expensive to maintain (lots of systems to maintain/cubic feet to heat/cool). Roughly 40 miles to either north suburban Indianapolis or Lafayette...

Changes in Laundry Pod next year

Didn't Suffolk County get into trouble for legislating laundry back in the 70s? Seems like that all over again.

    GE Spacemaker Range

Probably that is how they stopped that 21 inch stove from being a rattly mess...keeping the bottom rigid.

Tide Ultra Oxi Powder for the win

I thought I saw one at Rite Aid last week with 3 enzymes---might have been old stock or an old formulation. (update---found the version I believe I saw with the 3) https://smartlabel.henkel-northamerica.com/00024200045081/p/smartlabel

    GE Spacemaker Range

They put these in my grandmother's CCRC which was built between 1992-3. Far better quality than anything you find today in this size (interestingly, her daughter (my aunt) moved into the same CCRC last year into a cottage (which were built 7-8 years after the place opened)....they put in a...

Tide Ultra Oxi Powder for the win

It seems fairly straightforward---Tide Oxy and Persil are the all-singing, all-dancing, multi-enzyme performers. Regular Tide has slightly fewer enzymes. Gain fewer still and Simply Tide/Era don't have any at all. Similarly, the All Oxy and Purex Oxy Plus (and OxyClean High Def) have 3...

KA-WP appliance merger in the '80s

About this time Panasonic sniffed around entering the US major appliance market in a bigger way--they cobbled together a lineup of (primarily Canadian made, it seemed) appliances in the early 1990s to do a bit of a market test. Seemingly it was available at dealers that sold...

Frigidaire Custom Imperial stove. $350 cdn London Ont.

Actually I wonder if that coil was a "thing" for all the French door stoves to give a little extra safety margin since the door wasn't right there.

Uknown stove? Hamilton Ontario estate sale

yeah we had a thread about that earlier--better industrial design on Canadian Enterprise/ US Monarch versus the US off-brand Enterprise

rare Clairtone G2 stereo console $10,000. Cdn

That G2 is pretty amazing, and with all the cool ephemera alongside---really neat. Clairtone is a pretty unique and interesting story; so sad they collapsed the way they did. There is a stereo console hobby verrrry similar to AW to which I subscribe on FB--much fun. Dave, presume you know...

    Suspect that is Enterprise.

Frigidaire Custom Imperial stove. $350 cdn London Ont.

It's a guard to keep you from burning your potholder as you pull out the oven shelf. Kinda a good idea with those elements that are straight along the front without a diffuser or anything. Here's the analogous item for the edge of an oven rack.[this post was last edited: 1/26/2024-11:25]...

Toaster Oven Thread ... what's on your counter?

yeah, we had one of those GE 4 slice toaster ovens that lasted me 40 years from college in 1982 to last year--one time pushed the lever and it popped and smoked and that was the end of it :(

New Kitchenaid DW W/auto open 39 db/water softener

This looks suspiciously like a Bosch that was easily available during COVID---made in Germany, it was an ADA machine (so kind of universal, plus had a water softener which is a plus out in the desert). We were on the hunt for a dishwasher in 2021/2022, did want a Bosch, and this one was...

    Vintage Food Advertisements: Part Twenty-one

Metrecal and others were a craze in the very early 60s. You can tell that it was advertised for both men and women, which is wild. The earliest ads were all-text, as Mead Johnson was an "ethical" baby formula company (same as an "ethical" pharmaceutical company--in the day they advertised only...

    Broadcast AM radio listening.

Ah the good old-fashioned clear channel AM stations. KMOX 1120 out of St. Louis is another olde-time one. Grew up listening to that station all the time. Funny experience--we got a used Fisher tube-type high-end stereo console and had it refurbished, including a Bluetooth receiver. One day...
