looking for the modern equivalent of a vintage kitchen aid dishwasher

We stay at an inn in southern Vermont which has two Bosch residential dishwashers flanking a double sink/disposer. Their needs are a little different (given that they're feeding breakfast to 12-15 people and need commercial-type sanitation). There was a research study for the public health...

    Mark 27 Droptop Oven Vent

    That looks right.

    Gas ranges with electric broilers

Lets them do several things....advertise "waist high broiler" and cheapen things out by not having to put in a broiler drawer...win:win

    Mark 27 Droptop Oven Vent

I think that's upside down. Goal is to connect the vent in the oven to the center of the top element.

Searching for "ephemera" - not all brands available

Cyclone doesn't ring a bell as a major appliance brand, but may well be some unusual private label. If you're drawing a blank, you might post pictures of the controls/tub/lid/rear of the unit so wiser heads can weigh in about who the manufacturer was.

    Detroit Jewel gas stove

Company was a Detroit brand when lots of stoves were made in Detroit.  They got absorbed into Welbilt in the mid-50s during the great merging of stove brands/plants.  They had the benefit of some good industrial design which has made them classics.

Vintage East German washing machines in Australia

Did they actually sell these in Australia (doubtless to gain hard currency) or are these just one-offs?

    Mattresses aargh

We've been happy sleepers (though not particularly happy fu%%ers LOL) on memory foam in Detroit (we can get a King bed-in-a-box up the stairs, which is the primary limitation with this house).    Out in California, though, we found that we did -not- like the California King size (longer and...

Walmart great value version of Tide

That curved lid shape definitely shouts Henkel....sounds like it's their mid-tier formula (akin to Gain or upper level All---3 or 4 enzymes, not the 5 or 6 in Persil/Tide).

    1969 GE Range

Wouldn't know without trying---those temperature probes certainly weren't re-engineered manufacturer to manufacturer, but they may have a couple different models (one for self-cleaning ovens, one for non-self-cleaning).  GE was definitely a leader in electric cooking at that point, so if anyone...

    Tappan trash compactor

There are some specific use cases (SOCRRA or similar not being among 'em) where compactors can be helpful (some places that require use of "tags" to be charged for pickup or have very restrictive can sizes) or when you need to use a transfer station (a nice compact brick rather than billowing...

VMW banging while entering spin--smooths out subsequent

Have an Amana VMW about 5 years old.  When doing a heavy mixed load (king sheets and bath towels with a few pair of underwear/socks), I get a few bangs (up to about 30 seconds) while entering spin before everything smooths out and the cycle continues.   My 15 year old Kenmore DD in...

    Maytag Dishwasher MDB4949SKW

I think that the 2 rack design on a mid-priced d/w is the better choice...unless you get an expensive one there isn't enough benefit from a truly custom-fit loading pattern and TBH it isn't worth fussing with the 3rd rack for cutlery.  The WP design with the round sprayer for juice glasses etc...

    Input/Thoughts appreciated

There's some interesting back story on the stove.  Philco bought the Electromaster range factory in Mount Clemens in the late 40s (to round out their offerings of refrigeration and radio) which originally produced the Electrochef. Detroit Edison aggressively supported Electromaster to promulgate...

As of 2025, What are the best clean rinsing laundry detergents in the U.S ?

"I had trouble putting my socks on because they were so stiff and full of residue" That reminds me of Fresh Start in the 1980's and 90's. Actually early Fresh Start was phosphated...encrustation doesn't occur nearly as badly with some STPP in the formula.  Later it became only available...

Like new vintage portable whirlpool dishwasher must see

Am I remembering correctly that Whirlpool Estate Series at the time was commonly found at K-Mart? I think more properly "big box"....Silo/Circuit City/Best Buy/Fretter/Highland/Sun (at the time)

    vintage telephones on moderm line

"area code for local calls" is less a VoIP issue than a mandate as they increase use of non x11 numbers for short code dialing (988 for suicide prevention...for example).  They are moving to mandatory 10 digit dialing everywhere (landline, POTS, etc) to accommodate these hotlines.

    Thermador brand question

Since they came up with the idea of a wall oven, they had first mover advantage plus the advantage of local proximity to Eichler (back in the 40s/50s there was a lot more local manufacture of cooking equipment...look at all the weird brands that are out there).  As the American Gas Association...
