    My Whirlpool dishwasher

believe those lengthened times are to assure an acceptable level of dryness....I note that on our Bosch machines if the rinse agent is low the drying time is extended.  Hotter the water---less elapsed time.   I just ran the 1 hour cycle on our 800-series Bosch....the dishes were perfectly...

    adding paraffin to boiled laundry

Guess I never thought of (solid) paraffin having any value in lifting oil-based stains----guess if it's melted and dispersed it's got some use.   I wonder if it's analogous to cleaning my latex rubber bodysuits---the final rinse is in water with a squirt of a product called...

    Challenge C-WD - The 1957 Kenmore Turbo-Matic - 16mm Film

I hadn't thought about the benefit in an apartment building.    Have a friend who has in the past owned a 12 unit apartment building.  He schemed for years to figure out how to get laundry into the units as it got him $50 more a month (I don't recall the numbers, but it was a slam dunk).  To...

    adding paraffin to boiled laundry

Curious if anyone knows--the use of nap(h)tha incorporated in soap is a pretty well known laundry aid (Fels Naptha, P&G White Naphtha soap).  Looking at some old ads saw an interesting one for Parowax (Standard Oil's white blocks of paraffin) that suggested shaving some (maybe a tablespoon or...

Maytag walks across floor during spin cycle

one suggestion (that I cannot believe you haven't done)---has the shipping strap and the associated brackets/cotter pins/etc been removed? Could the strap have been removed broken leaving the brackets etc still in? IDK if this is even a thing any more.

First experience with a cheap washer/dryer in an apartment

yes, this is the unit. Have been playing with it---right now synthetic underwear plus a couple pairs of cotton boxers and socks. Quick wash--2h 12 mins including dry. Did 2 pairs of blue jeans plus a rugby shirt--3h 25 minutes and came out fine.

First experience with a cheap washer/dryer in an apartment

In Vancouver, the hotel we're in has a (likely) inexpensive Danby washer/dryer in a closet. Just tried it on 5 long sleeve shirts and a king pillow case.  Appeared to be a water condenser system.  The Heavy Duty auto cycle showed up as 4:27 (lots of other options didn't seem to have a wash into...

    Avocado Magic Chef D W

about 1968 I'd say.  Wonder if D&M had the tilty door latch as an option for the OEM manufacturer to choose.  Would be kind of fun to see the "catalogue" of options for the product manager at Kelvinsonchef to choose from.

    Western Auto dishwasher

I wonder if this was somehow the origin story of the original (topload) Maytag dw.....perhaps the pressing/stamping of the tubs or something. Webster City and Newton aren't that far apart...

    Vintage Food Advertisements: Part Twenty-three

I'm the exact opposite....I think that fish dish sounds reasonably good but I just -cant- deal with starchy sweet tomato soup. I made porcupines (meatballs with raw rice cooked in the pressure cooker) recently--the sauce is tomato soup and I about heaved making it.    I've written elsewhere...

    The Cool Wash Temperature

recently used tap cold on my Amana VMW when I wasn't able to get the hot tap turned on due to a drip---could continue to do laundry (here in the desert it's not so out of the question----I wish I had ATC on the machine in Detroit to moderate the rinse temperature!

    Vintage Appliance Advertisements: Part Twenty-nine

during WW2 the only refrigeration available new in the domestic market were iceboxes....Coolerator out of Duluth.  Saw one once at an antique store with labeling--shelves were all wooden doweling.

    Best Buy Insignia appliances

For all that is holy do take your crockery and glasses to the store before settling on a dishwasher....nothing more annoying than having your favorite dishes just not fit.  Older cheap Bosch were better with thinner (Corelle) dishes; WP was better with stoneware (Pfalzgraff etc). Newer expensive...
