    Hospital Laundry Sanitizer

This would actually be a good solution to call either Economics Labs or a local cleaning supply company for professional-level advice. They would be able to help with dosing, temperature, etc etc for the type machines you have now. P&G Professional might be a good line which the volunteers...

    Canning bolognese in an oven

During COVID I did a rabbit-trail around home canning customs worldwide (I think I'd come upon an old Ball Blue Book from the 40s or so). There is amazing divergence in what gets canned, when and how. If you're getting serious about canning in the US, you need to invest in a recent (last...

    New Dishwasher Detergent Ratings

silicone personal lubricant may also be used to tamp down suds in a dishwasher.

What's everyone using for laundry detergent these days?

Apparently Ollie's is having a laundry products sale/buyout----presumably P&G as they seem well plugged into their supply chain. Was there a few weeks ago and found some Dreft Pure (scent-free Dreft....from ingredients equal to Gain--triple enzyme) for $2.99 a bottle.

    Who Made These Washers?

Quite likely as Detergents, Inc (which was the original name of the developer of All---absorbed by Monsanto) was in Dayton, OH just down the road from Mansfield (HQ of Westinghouse Appliances). My grandfather worked for them in Dayton for a time in the 1946-1948 timeframe (they lived down in...

    Doris Day kitchen

Looks vaguely American Kitchens/D&M. Cabinets are Geneva. Faucet is American Standard, I think (definitely neither Moen nor Delta)

    Kitchen-Aid KDS-57 Dishwasher

And the top is a lovely huge slab of laminated maple, nicely braced on the underside and the handle is a nice towel rack. I nabbed the one from my grandmothers build-in of hers (back in 1970!) and have designs to use it in the kitchen when and if I remodel.

    Washing Weight Lifting Gloves

TYVM for the ideas. A gallon of ammonia is quite cheap in the US (we like our cheap aqueous solutions, dontcha know...Chlorine bleach as well). The really strong stuff (25% as mentioned above) is actually used (or was used) to develop blueprints. I inherited a partially used gallon of that...

Why does Consumer Reports love Bosch so much?

yes, Corelle fits beautifully in my 10 y.o. Bosch...side plates/saucers seem impossibly closely racked (literally only about 5/8 of an inch between tines) but Corelle fits perfectly and comes out clean. Dinner plates--about 1 inch between tines--ditto.

    Washing Weight Lifting Gloves

Very timely...I have some well-loved Schiek weightlifting gloves which are starting to get just a bit stinky as well as some Vibram Five-Fingers which I use at the gym. Tried a spot clean on the Five Fingers with some 3% hydrogen peroxide---foamed up and let them dry after blotting. Will...

    Kelvy DW

yeah, with the filtering system not a bad machine. Even Consumer Reports didn't hate them. Great bottom rack.

Can anyone tell me the date on this washer motor?

Funny you bring that up--I was noticing that there was warm air under my DD washing machine when a cycle was complete---a little bit of a warm draft (noticeable in contrast to the cool concrete floor.

Why does Consumer Reports love Bosch so much?

Been perfectly happy with the cheapy Ascenta (plastic bottom) Bosch we got about 10 years ago. The pump is slightly more audible than it seems it used to be, could be on it's way out, but then again the KA Superba side by side refrigerator clunks when the compressor shuts off and has done it...

Are refrigerator defrost timers universal, these days?

We've got a very small (14 sqft) 40 year old Kenmore (WP built) refrigerator/freezer in a condo we own. It was provided at the time the condo was built (as was the stove which is also in place). Looks like the fan was replaced about 20 years ago, but am noticing that the defrost timer is...

    Spiffy Hotpoint BOL

The plastic-tub Permatuf (Louisville) design was so successful and so inexpensive to manufacture that it really did take over the market. GE could crank out the tubs (once they had the tooling and molds in place--up front cost...little more to them than a plastic swimming pool) for a minimal...

    Frigidaire Trash Compactor

I think these were GM made, doubtless in Dayton.

    Spiffy Hotpoint BOL

Believe the last use of the porcelain tubs was for the portable/convertibles. Probably could get away with the telescoping anti-tip leg (rather than needing a ballast weight which PermaTuf would have required). Think these were produced through the 1990s (and also were offered in Canada....they...

When were Roper Washers first introduced?

Not to be pedantic, but there were Roper dishwashers in the 70s (mfg by D&M) in order to fit out low-end built-in kitchens (apartments/mobile homes/etc).

Questions about the G.E. Mark 27

They did an update of this (again, replacement market) labeled "Spacemaker" (which was GE's trademark for the undercabinet appliances etc) with slanted stacked burner controls and an electronic oven control. You're better off with this one...
