Site layout/navigating the ‘new’ AW site

I was able to log in with my old password without any trouble, I just entered my user name and the password got right on. The new site format will take a bit to get used to, but there are some things that are nice too. I’ll give myself time to adjust to the new format. Eddie

Robert, Thanks for all that you’ve done for all these years to keep these websites up and running! Also, thanks for taking the care to hand them over to someone else that you trust to keep them up and running. I can’t imagine that anyone else can ever do it as well as you. Congratulations on...

-WANT TO BUY- Frigidaire fold-back range unit (stove top)

A simple, “someone else contacted me first and it’s been sold, I’m sorry”  would have been sufficient.   Eddie

    Turquoise GE Wall Oven

My maternal grandparents purchased a brand new track home in 1955 with a GE AEK and it had a turquoise GE wall oven just like this one, along with a GE stove top, DW and WD combo built into the cabinet next to the DW.     All the buyers in the neighborhood immediately had problems with the...

    New electric stove

My recommendation would also be a GE Smooth Top.  Like Mike in reply #6 I’ve also owned GE electric stoves for the last 20 years, two coil tops and the  current smooth top and I’ve liked everyone of them, but the current smooth top with a self cleaning oven is hands down the best.  I’ve never...

    Home Depot Dryer Installation!! Seriously???

Yeah, and they INSIST that you purchase a dryer installation kit for about $35.00 with that cheap ass foil vent tubing! Whatever happened to pride in workmanship? Eddie

    Range cleaning

I remember using Easy Off in the glass jar with the handle attached to the lid. At least you didn’t have to breathe the fumes of the spray on Easy Off. Eddie

    Range cleaning

I’ve found from over 60 years of cooking that the ONLY way to keep a stove top clean is to wipe it down thoroughly with a cloth, hot water and soap EVERY time I cook on it. I keep a wet dish cloth by the stove while I’m cooking and wipe off the spills and splatters right away and then when I...

    Cooking with gas burners

The gas stoves that I can recall from my childhood were all vented to the outside with a stove pipe and that’s maybe why we never suffered any ill effects from their use. Most modern gas stoves aren’t vented to the outside. The last gas stove I had was in the condo we lived in before moving to...

    Thor Automagic!

Well Tom you have a good point. From what I can remember about that TV episode the machine looked a lot like the Thor Auto Magic, so perhaps this is where the writers got the idea for that story line? Eddie

    Iterations of the Waring Blendor

In 1972 I bought a Waring Blendor like the one in photos 3&4 of the OP thats in the middle of the three next to the gray plastic bottle. I paid $5.00 at the Salvation Army Thrift Store for this blendor and used it until 1987 when I sold it in a garage sale that David and I had in order to amass...

    Thor Automagic!

I can recall watching an episode of “Life With Elizabeth” Betty White’s first TV series in about 1955 in which her husband, I think his name was Brad had monkeyed around with their washing machine to also make it a dishwasher, because Elizabeth wanted a DW. They loaded it up with their dishes...

    vintage telephones on moderm line

Ralph, As long as we’ve had area codes we’ve had to dial the area code to direct dial a number in another area code. My area code is 707, if you wanted to make a call to say Marin County which is area code 415 you’ve always had to dial at least the 415 area code first. The need to dial “1”...

    vintage telephones on moderm line

We’ve had mandatory 10 digit dialing here for two or more years now. When I first moved to Petaluma, Calif. in 1970 all the prefixes in Petaluma were either 762 or 763 for the old POrter exchange. To make a local call then you only had to dial the last 5 digit's. So if I was calling the...

    vintage telephones on moderm line

We got rid of At&T POTS over 10 years ago. I did the installation and back fed the VOIP thru the wall jack for the POTS jack near the gateway and disconnected the POTS line in the At&T service box on the outside of the house. This worked great until about six years ago and then the phones...

Is this a good model Speed Queen to buy used?

Re: Yellowed plastic knobs, I believe that I one read somewhere that applying hydrogen peroxide to yellowed plastic you could get rid of some or all of the yellowing. It’s a cheap, easy fix to try and shouldn’t harm the plastic in any way. Eddie

Is this a good model Speed Queen to buy used?

If I were going to have a Speed Queen FL this would be one of the models that would appeal to me. I like the old school analog controls, can’t tell from the photo but I believe this model also has a timer control for the cycles rather than electronic and that would also be a plus for me...

    Vintage Appliance Advertisements: Part Twenty-nine

When I make a cocoanut cake I frost it with American buttercream frosting flavored with vanilla and I fold about 3/4 to 1 cup of finely chopped cocoanut into the frosting, then lightly sprinkle shredded cocoanut on the top. This way you get the taste of cocoanut in every single bite without...
