POD 03/20/2020

GM was juggling transmissions at that time. What the net says about 62 Cat is not what we had, neither was the 63. The 62 bypassed torque converter in second, 63 was 'conventional' in every sense. Unknown what they did to StarChief and Bonneville, but buddy's 59 was 4-speed conventional...

    POD 03/20/2020

brief sidebar Ford in 55 was PRNDL. But you coudn't necessarily trust it to stay in Park. Buick in 57 was PNDLR. We had one of both. Not absolutely certain about the 62 Pontiac, but I think by then it was PRND(2?)L.

    Maytag A170 Skips Drain Cycle

Congrats Frank. A lot of this diagnosis stuff is correlating what has gone before. Bad neutral isn't the first suspect in most cases, unless it's happened to your house before. Wonder is, your fridge will still start at 95V. Last time, was it the utility? Or the house wiring? I know...

    Maytag A170 Skips Drain Cycle

Skuze me, I've only changed belts on Maytags, but if the motor runs one direction, the exact same windings are used for reverse. Only the polarity of one winding changes, and the timer does that. If the motor fails to start and only sits there growling, the current through the one winding that...

Miele W1 TDOS - Shock From The Drum - Question

That scale is what burns out heat elements by acting like a blanket keeping heat in. A monthly jug of vinegar allowed to soak will minimize it. The electrical fault is baffling. The working part of the machine as well as the cabinet should be at earth potential. What else are you touching...

    1957 Westinghouse laundromat help needed

Help me out here. Confused about when W'house went from the gearbox to the sheave for spin speed. Quick, go to the POD page and tell me what year that pair is. The one matching those that we got prior to moving in 1957 had the sheave. The double door (inner glass/outer metal very early 50s)...

A Canadian Beatty Brothers Conventional Slipped Down the Continent: Best Xmas present Ever

Carousel Mickey, the Herschell carousel museum is still operating. They also have the Wurlitzer device that made punched rolls for band organs and working organs. 180 Thompson St. 716.693.1885 I've been enchanted with carousels since my earliest memory. Before that the only music I'd...

A Canadian Beatty Brothers Conventional Slipped Down the Continent: Best Xmas present Ever

It's so sparkly! North Tonawanda is the only northern place I'd like to see. Not just for sparkly Canadian washers. It's the historic hub of the carousel industry.

    Vexing Dishwasher

once heater is fixed... Results and speed improve if you purge the hot water line before starting. Also helps to leave the hot faucet on a slow dribble, but of course there's a cost involved.

Accept The Fact British Are Correct - Washing Machines Belong In Kitchen

Notice it took 13 replies before anyone mentioned France, somewhat underwriting the impression that the French don't wash. Never had W/D in the kitchen. Next wall over, or garage. TX, OK, CA, and HI houses. Pbgh and KC had basements.

Old washers and water usage cost.........

I don't see bills here but surely the institution gets charged for 'drainage' even though it just runs down the street into the creek. Austin charged a line item for 'street maint/drainage', something like $1.50/mo for running the sweeper every other week and letting rain run down the street...

Old washers and water usage cost.........

No matter how bad you have it, somebody has it worse. Y'all see #4, where UK charges for how much rain runs off your roof? The good news is, I'm in subsidized housing. Water, drainage, and even hot water, is 'free'. The bad news is, I'm in subsidized housing. Not only are the...

Fascinating. Stir in a couple molecules of fluorine and you get freon 12, all but harmless.

Industrial Products from Jamestown, NY: Voting Machines

There would have to be a counter for each lever. That's a lot of counters. Then there's the matter of dishonest counter readers and jiggering.

Industrial Products from Jamestown, NY: Voting Machines

Those got wheeled in and out of my 50s schools. Never actually used one. What was the output? Punched paper roll? Counter for each lever? Both?

    Live in Whataburgerland? TRY THIS!

The signs still say "limited time" but the staff believes it to be permanent. Except twice due to sour weather, I've been there every Saturday morning since.

    Question about OTR microwave design...

In a 1990 apartment, the OTR hood fan was separate from the magnetron fan in both a GE and a Whirlpool. (Incidentally, both electronics failed while my 1982 GE still works fine today.) In today's world of mindless costcutting, wouldn't surprise me to find only one fan. Though sucking...

    Westinghouse Bottle Chiller

robbing the machine #1, the challenge. #2, slithering the bottles through the maze by the cap hurt my fingers, so the machine owed me pain & suffering. Still 'dishonest' and only did it a couple times. The Westinghouse, and ice-based water chillers, were part of a more ethical time.
