Coils are prone to failure, sold and easily installed separately from the valve body.

I remember that rubber hardening from the heat on our 50s W perftub dryer.   Stick-on closed-cell foam weatherstrip would work temporarily.  OTOH, hot as those dryers get, w'strip might melt.
