    Green (not avocado) Hoover Spirit

my last K bag I was too and the vac store quit ordering them.  The 'official' Hoover parts site doesn't know what a 'Spirit' is.  Think I ended up on ebay, bag of 12 "Envirocare"s for much less than I was paying the brick store for the same thing.  Also got a multi-pack of powernozzle belts...

    Mansfield, Home of Westinghouse

Landscape envy I love that model too.  First largescale machine I took apart, rebuilt pump and spin drives.  So simple a 14yo can fix it. <span style="font-size: 10pt;">[Unless it's the boot.]</span>

    Green (not avocado) Hoover Spirit

Ahh, that's the Spirit.  Mine's 2-tone gray, pretty scuffed up.  That plastic is what Western Electric used to make phones out of.  Put a hose, motor brushes, switch, cut the frayed last foot off the cord.  Got it used in the mid 80s.   Got most parts at the vac store but they don't bother any...

    6-4 POD Tide/Norge

That I recall, kids in 1955 did not wear old man pants halfway up their ribcage.  I'd have to look again but I don't think the Little Rascals did either.  Where do ad agencies get these ideas?

    Easy Spindrier

Heard tell once here, the legs are plenty strong to hold the machine up but they are NOT strong enough to turn the machine over by leveraging the legs.  Must take two people?  Or three.   Two faucets, single speed makes it next-to TOL IINM.  Keeping the chrome hoops would have been nice, seems...

    TV Sightings

There's the Twilight Zone.  Where the thermometer explodes, the oil painting melts, the fan stops, a guy breaks in to steal water.    The lady wakes up from her dream.  Earth has strayed from its orbit.  The distant sun radiates no warmth.  Everyone is doomed to freeze to death.

    My childhood washers

We know, Aspergers is not 'one thing'.  It's a branch on the autism tree with many leaves and buds.  It tends toward enhanced faculties in individually-specific functional areas, often at the expense of other areas.   If there was a pill that 'cured' Aspergers, I wouldn't take it.  It's what I...

    My childhood washers

Howdy Robert.  I'm Aspy too.  Always drawn to machines.  They make more sense than people do. They do what they're expected to do and if not there's a very good reason, not just because they felt like it.    Washers in particular; water in motion is endlessly fascinating.  Hawaii surfer '67-'75.

    Thor Wringer Washer!

That's grandma's "Bang Washer".  So named by me (around 5yo) because when the wobbulation reverses the transmission goes <span style="font-size: 14pt;">BANG</span>.  I haven't seen one of those since grandma retired it and got an Easy Spindrier.   Note the decorative touch of hands and fingers...

    Rhubarb!

I don't know why they call this cakemix helper.  It does just fine by itself.  I like it better than pie helper, don't you Clark?   I kinda like rhubarb.  Made it a couple times on instinct and got away with it.  Must not be too critical.  Just a bowl of it like it was applesauce.

    Gas Stoves and Indoor Pollution

using a range hood while cooking Got it covered.  I use the range hood while smoking.  I only breathe the N2O once. [this post was last edited: 5/19/2020-07:14]

    Gas Stoves and Indoor Pollution

"I've got 6 CO detectors and they never go off"   How many nitrogen dioxide detectors do you have?  Pritdang toxic, specially in an enclosed environment where it can build up.  I'm not adendizing.  Gas has its place.  I'd dread the cost of electric house and water heat.  But if you're going to...

    Timeout, login, lost content

Yes, I was in on the last go-round and recall it was determined NOT to just hit 'login' without capturing your work up to that point.  Had already pritmuch reached that conclusion, having been bit more than once.   Raising it now as a refresher:  If this happens, don't expect your work to...

    Timeout, login, lost content

Boy would I have been pixxed if I hadn't copied the whole thing before trying the suggested 'login'.   Timeout and login would have dumped an extensive, intricate post.  Shouldn't have timed out in the first place; was in the middle of preview/format/preview, made a small change (space bar)...

    Gas Stoves and Indoor Pollution

After a couple hours roasting turkey, gas always gave me a headache despite the leaky 70s house and running the ducted vent fan.  Glad to be rid of gas.
