    Off Balance Switches

Heavy Bulky rugs--------- So, last month I went to wash two large bathroom rugs the size of small runners. First I put them in the Collapse-O thinking it has a Bulky cycle and room to move them around. Big mistake. It almost chocked to death on them and was making serious knocking noises. I...

    Maytag Commercial Washer

My ten year old, lightly used, SQ MOL TL is having problems. The tub always leaned to the one o'clock position during agitation but that is now to the extreme and it makes a rubbing sound during agitation. The timer has recently gone out as well. Having problems with such a low-mileage machine...

Am I the only one who feels like I’m going to have a seizure from watching an orbital Maytag?

I never had a problem with my big tub Maytag orbital because I didn't overload it. If I had a complaint it was the final rinse is too short by a minute or so. 90 seconds barely gives a full load a chance to roll over one time.

    Tide Oxi/Tide w/bleach (powder)

I use many different detergents depending on what the need is for the load of clothes. My first exposure to detergents with an oxygen bleach additive was Tide with Bleach on Martin's recommendation. I think it does a great job. Recently, I purchased a bag of the Ariel Oxi and it seems to do...

The Convair 880 flies again! (sort of)

The 880 was tight in this configuration. Notice the sidewalls on the 220 have little curvature and the bins create good headroom. The 880 did not have this benefit. GD/Convair might have had a real winner on their hands were it not for the constant delays and interference from Howard Hughes. In...

    Frigidaire Holy Grail - WCIR-61

Go BEN!!!!!!!! That is a really nice Clamshell. The Energy ring looks like it saw plenty of use, so whomever owned it took good care of it.

Huge Need for Appliance Service Techs

David------- as usual, follow the $$$$. The educational system here in the US is badly broken. We have a young part-time employee who just graduated from a local liberal arts college with his BA in Social Science. He now has over $80K worth of Govt. loans to pay back and can't get a full time...

Huge Need for Appliance Service Techs

What's to fix? It's all electro/plastic throw-away drek. Now, someone who learns to repair existing old stuff will have a future because NOBODY likes the new drek! Everybody I know is desperate to keep their old stuff up and running. Those of us "in the know" should have been warehousing NIB...

Pressure washer to clean porcelain washer drums

Knock loose what you can with a wire brush and POR-15 right over the top of everything else.

LA 506 - cleaning, rust removal, and restoration

Two different things. POR-15 is used to stop rust. You can even paint it right over the rust. The Right Stuff is a sealant. Make your own gaskets or shmeer it around to seal an area from water.

LA 506 - cleaning, rust removal, and restoration

About 1/2 cup to a gal. Water. I have hard water. The Right Stuff is very thick like axle grease. Makes it easy to work with and dries quickly. Wear gloves. I find that plain rubbing alcohol gets it off if you catch it quick enough.

LA 506 - cleaning, rust removal, and restoration

I have used POR-15 for years to rust-proof. Never had a problem with rust re-appearing on treated areas. As for Flex-Seal.If you need to make an area water-tight, it is the wrong stuff. What you need is the "Right Stuff" which you can usually get at any auto-parts store. I have used Lime-Away...

Frigidaire Unimatic Oil Pump Seals - explained

Years ago------ I was delighted to find an old Flat-Top with a low production-run number. No telling how many decades it sat idle gathering dust until I came along. Cosmetically it was in great shape and appeared to be low-mileage. While I did have the forethought to run some hot water down...

    Go get it, gents!

Looks like a '67 to me. Those were very good dryers.

    Salted butter or not?

Unsalted for baking, salted for everything else. Assuming one can consume a stick a week, it keeps very well at room temperature. I like to use salted when making shortbread.

    Roma Detergent ... opinions?

The Mexican version of Super-Suds. Lots of sudz, not much cleaning action. Maybe if you beat your clothes on a rock it works better.

    Tampa Bay / St. Pete

HI Georgie, The SQ went to Martin (yogitunes) in New Jersey. You can imagine my surprise when attending my first wash in there and seeing it. Still has a chunk missing on top! I still have the poker. -Steve
