Any Cookie Curators to discuss extinct Stella D'oros of yore?

The big fish swallow up the little ones and you never see those products again. Keebler did make Coconut Chocolate Drop cookies which I thought were great for store bought, and have since discontinued them, of course. At least they still make the Danish Wedding cookies for FIVE dollars a box...

Any Cookie Curators to discuss extinct Stella D'oros of yore?

BTW The cookies were all made with vegetable shortening not butterfat (and the company used that as an advertising tool in the days when people thought butter was poison) so the cookies lacked the depth of a butter cookie. They were not too sweet, nor, were the flavors used, too strong...

Any Cookie Curators to discuss extinct Stella D'oros of yore?

Aaah. Swiss Fudge Cookies! Anise Bread Sticks, and yes, the Italian Assortment----loved the vanilla/strawberry swirls! Like everything else really good, eventually it's gone! Whatever happened to Sunshine Biscuit Co.? Vanilla Wafers made with butter, and golden raisin squares. Hydrox Chocolate...

    '62 Frigidaire agitator cap

The '56 and '57 had that gray cap, and rings.

    bendix diving bell washer

Primative, small, lame extraction, easy to sudz lock. Those are all the positive things I can think of. Makes an interesting mail-box, too heavy to steal and will win any battle with car or truck. I can't recall anyone using one as a daily driver since the late fifties. Ive seen some minty...

    Ummm, a Filtramatic?

    Frigidaire A/C $30.00

Oh, I remember these. As far as "window-shakers" go these were really powerful. I knew someone in Atlanta who cooled a whole three bedroom house with one of these.

Look What Happened to My 1958 General Electric Washer

Well, the high speed "Activation" certainly gives a new meaning to the phrase "Live Water". Given the speed of Pulsation in ,say, a Unimatic, I wouldn't think it would damage fabrics as long as there is enough water to circulate easily. I have Jason's tricked out '65 LK downstairs. It has a...

Anybody out there grossed out with cast iron cookware?

Returning to the topic at hand-------- I just used my iron roaster to make a fabulous brisket tzimmes loaded with sweet potatoes, prunes and carrots. There is just something special about using my old cookware.

Anybody out there grossed out with cast iron cookware?

Jamie--- you said and I will quote you "Jews will immerse newly purchased cookpots (to kosher them ) in the same mikvah (ritual bath) where people (primarily women) have just immersed their bodies". THAT is a LIE. Now, whatever reason you chose to distort the truth to fit whatever your agenda...

    Amana washer/dryer

They look like 80's machines, and appear very clean on the outside,at least. I always thought this vintage was a good , if noisy , performer. I'm sure Kenny can tell you more than I can, though.

Anybody out there grossed out with cast iron cookware?

Jamie I don't know where you source your information, (perhaps Henry Fords Dearborn Independent of the 1920's),however, nothing could be further from the truth about the koshering process. Everybody immerses their pots in a large kettle of boiling water. In the event a pot is made tref it can...

Look What Happened to My 1958 General Electric Washer

Fun! Would be really splashy with a load of bib-overalls. I do wonder how well the fins and drive block area will hold up under the stress. Seems like the old brittle Bakelite might be unforgiving of the extra stress.

Anybody out there grossed out with cast iron cookware?

Splitting hairs or trying to reinvent the wheel isn't going to change ages old cooking habits. My take away is that seriously OCD,germophobic,or allergy prone people would NEVER eat out of their own home-----ever, or risk certain death by poisoning. After all, restaurants are known to be...

Anybody out there grossed out with cast iron cookware?

I have a lot of cast-iron I use all the time. As Hans mentioned the corn bread skillets and giant fried chicken skillet just get wiped out and stored. Nothing will stick to them, anyway. If something (rarely) needs a bit of scrub, hot water and a "Tuffy" scrubbie will do the trick. I can't...

Historic photograph - appliance dept. at K-mart showing Frigidaires

Thanks to K-Mart, Whirlpool began to catch-on around Atlanta. Oh, a few independents sold them, but, K-Mart introduced them to the masses. You could get a basic BOL for a great price, if money was tight, and it would do a good job.

    A Window Lid Hotpoint!

I don't recall ever seeing a window lid on a Hotpoint. I guess the ones I knew of, back in the day, were too basic. Even the TOL set I remember seeing in about 1971 or so did not have a window lid although the competing Frigidaire did.

    POD 9-16-18 Philco Automagic

I always preferred the solid tub model. However, they were very good at cleaning. I think the water extraction was kind of lame. I used a lot of these machines including the ones at the coin laundry with the little broomstick instead of the detergent/filter column.

    Vintage Maytag Washer-Dryer 340W

I think the Philco-Bendix Combo's did a vey good job. Unfortunately, They couldn't make them now because of Government interference. They certainly would do at least as well as today's "Drek a Matic" machines especially on " office dust". No matter the brand, people who didn't have the room...
