    Panda Spin Dryer Feedback

Customer Service I suppose it's inevitable, but gosh - that sucks! I really appreciated the prompt, no hassle replacement of your spinner.   Amazon has their ups and downs. We had a major problem with packages not going to our house, but one down the street (similar house number) and got put on...

Nice overview of the 240v US electrical system

Never The Same Colour Twice Yup. Until about '67 that was really true. After that, things got properly synced and the problem improved, a lot. By the end, I'd say NTSC was every bit as good as PAL at colour rendition.

Nice overview of the 240v US electrical system

Chris, I feel the same way - I left the US whilst still too young to really understand that 'Metric' was supposed to be hard and ridiculous. So, learning to use it in Germany was super simple.   I still use Metric whenever possible now that I'm back in the US.

Nice overview of the 240v US electrical system

The emotional heat over these topics fascinates me Goodness!   Anyone who has dealt with both systems knows that the Metric is easy as pie and far better for scaling up and down.   As to PAL/SECAM vs. NTSC, let's not forget that NTSC was designed to be backwards compatible to the...

Nice overview of the 240v US electrical system

Reply #34 I, apparently, was not clear.   My reference was not to SI units. I was referring to variations in how much deviation from a given dimension is permitted by various manufacturers.   Indeed, I was trying to express exactly what you said about SI units.   It's not the 'fault' of...

The SI System Doesn't Vary but Tolerances and Specs. Do I learned that living in Germany and visiting relations in the UK and Italy.

    Trying to save chest freezer

No expert but - for what it's worth You can get plug in thermostats for deep freezes from amazon/ebay for less than $40.00. You just put the sensor into the chest, either short circuit the defective thermostat or set it to coldest if that still works, and plug the freezer into the new...

Nice overview of the 240v US electrical system

Metric IS easier Way easier. It was sabotaged in the US quite intentionally by forcing people to do the conversions between really difficult items such as one gallon of milk being 3.78541 litres, etc. Interestingly, and in a very quite way, more and more YouTube creators in the US are using...

Nice overview of the 240v US electrical system

Matt is so right! Everytime we paint a room, I change out the switches and outlets, unless they're quite modern GFCI or had just been done - then, I still check them. Worst offenders - the backwired (I don't mean the quality backwire systems) outlets and light switches. That system just plain...

Nice overview of the 240v US electrical system

Being German (not German-American) I know all about the advantages of 230V single phase. I thought the video was outstanding. I watch all his work, always great. I find North American plugs scary. I find UK plugs outrageously too big. Given how many North American workshops have a power...

    New Front for Trash Compactor

I had some Pank! left over after the Pankification of the Whirlpool DD (and, again, my thanks to everyone who helped defang that awful dumbed-down water temperature/hot water restriction). We've cycled through every colour except avocado (hate, hate, HATE that colour) for this compactor. No...

    RotoRack City!

Fun! Thank You! I recollect roto-racks and the heating-delay cycle. If you loaded them properly and used the heating delay, you could get really, really clean pots and pans. My mom found a trick - she'd begin by advancing the cycle to the deep-heat rinse, put in warm, not hot water (portable...

    Electric Skillets

Hi Barry, Yes, the dark surface will clean off easily when the rest is done. You can test this by rubbing it with  bit of Mother's Aluminium/Moly polish or non-gritty toothpaste. Before you switch to Carbon Off, which is, as you have been warned scary (it works, boy does it work and sometimes...

Replacing porcelain tub with stainless steel

Straight answer: Things are going to be more corroded under that basket. You will have a bit of work to do before it's ready to go back into service. Yes, you should use the opportunity to replace the components which wear - bearing, seal, coupler, clutch. From what I can tell, the neutral...

    Electric Skillets

Aluminium/Grease/Teflon Given the amount of baked on ick you are dealing with, it's either going to be mechanical means or horrendously dangerous acids or some sort of grease cutting chemical. Oven cleaner might do the trick for the first round. Yes, left in place too long it can damage...

    Electric Skillets

I love electric skillets and use them frequently I do, though, stay away from Teflon coatings - there is simply too much likely-hood of overheating in one. Not to mention that that stuff scratches if you look at it funny. The aluminium pans work, regardless of pitting. I've taken some very...

vintage GE curb find, info needed

That is so neat! You might want to go through the archives, I know various people have posted on their work on machines of that era. They seem to have been quite good from the very beginning. Oh, and by all means post more here - some of us (historical reasons) do not ever post on the sister...
