if you had to chose a dishwasher today what would you go with modern or vintage

I personally think that there are plenty of good options on the market. Bosch is definitely the king if finances allow. I'm simply blown away by the cleaning performance of these machines. They're so quiet its hard to tell if they are running. From the standard brands (WP, GE, Frigidaire) I...

    Amana HE Topload washer

Your selected cycle is bulky/sheets, which will likely due a full fill without any sensing. The normal or casual cycles are different. The fill is indeed restricted. I believe Whirlpool did this so that they could get a longer spray rinse that soaked the clothes evenly without dumping a full...

New Whirlpool Commerical TL washer wash action

Even the straight vane agitator turns the load over well. Looks like a very good machine. I'm interested to see how it does on those low water cycles.

    Kirk's Speed Queen tr7 video

I think the smaller load makes it look better than it is. I never thought I'd say that my Kenmore VMW could out wash a Speed Queen, but alas...

    No more belt drives?

I do see a lot of the dependable care Maytags. Oddly enough, I see even more of the 1980s machines judging by the control panels. I've never seen one of the 90's filter flos pop up. It surprises me that no KM belt drives sell since quite a few houses in my area have them.

    No more belt drives?

I've casually kept my eye out for a Whirlpool or Kenmore belt drive for a while now and don't notice any popping up on the local craigslist. On the other hand, Maytags pop up all the time and even the occasional GE filter flo. Are these machines long gone, or am I just having bad luck in my neck...

    New Tariffs On Washing Machines

@superocd, I'm not saying that Whirlpool would have an issue with these tariffs. It will surely help their bottom line. My comment was directed toward those implying that Whirlpool put pressure on our government to put these tariffs in place. It doesn't seem to be that way since Whirlpool is...

    New Tariffs On Washing Machines

I don't see why Whirlpool would want this to be done. Maybe those of you who implied this could explain a little more, although I haven't taken the time yet to fully read this thread. In my area at least, Whirlpool products are considerably cheaper than other manufacturers. Hasn't anyone noticed...

Market analysis at the begining of 2018

Yes, the regulations don't really make that much sense in terms of load size for washers. However I would say that most people I know don't load up the machine fully unless they are cost conscious. I fall to this same habit too - washing a half load of towels in my top loader just because...

    Spin Distribution

Better machines... So it seems that LG and Electrolux are largely the best machines in regard to spin distribution, with Whirlpool not too far behind? I wonder if the current Frigidaire machines are getting the "learning algorithm" as hand me down from the new Elux lineup. At the moment it...

    Spin Distribution

I'm not really sure why they spend so much time on this. I've seen an he2t in action which spent probably 5-10 minutes re-balancing only to give up and have a shaky spin anyway. Isn't this the exact problem that supposedly damages the machine?

    Spin Distribution

I started watching some videos of front load cycles to see how they stack up to what I use now. It seems to me that the Whirlpools waste a lot of time distributing the load before the final spin. Do all front loaders on the market do this, or is this just a Whirlpool thing...

Finally the full wash video of the new 2018 Speed Queen washer

That was also around the time Whirlpool had bought Maytag out and was putting Norge transmissions in them. They really killed off anything but their direct drive platform. Not really a high point for US appliance companies. I'm assuming the fancy F&P style Cabrios went away for the same...

Why its better not to have a transmission

I'm not 100% sure but my VMW's tub seems much larger than the direct drive ones. I find agitation is not much different than the old Lady Kenmores, albeit slower. It can definitely handle as much if not more than a direct drive without being overloaded.

Why its better not to have a transmission

From a reliability standpoint, you are right. To be honest the only thing that will probably need replacement on these machines during their service life is the drive belt, or if unlucky the drain pump. I'm sure that Speed Queen has included very durable motors and bearings on these machines.

Finally the full wash video of the new 2018 Speed Queen washer

If the focus is forcing water through the clothes rather than pulling the clothes through the water, what is the point of an agitub? A one piece impeller/basket like the immersion care system would offer the same effectiveness while likely using less water. I think the designers of this...

Finally the full wash video of the new 2018 Speed Queen washer

On the plus side, this machine is very quiet like the GE Hydrowave and has a well executed load sensing setup. It should also be very durable since the motor is directly connected to the tub solely by a pulley and driveshaft and therefore easy to repair. My praise ends there. If Whirlpool came...

    Favorite Vintage Appliance Designs?

My favorite would definitely have to be the belt drive Whirlpools. The curvy surgilator with the splashy wash action and classic woo-woo sound were all very exciting as a youngster. While I know that a vintage Maytag would probably be a more reliable daily machine I still want a Whirlpool.

    New Commercial MT washer pics.

These look to be high quality machines. I'd buy one if it weren't for the ugly control panel and lack of water level selector.

New Maytag commercial top load washer video.

Its definitely apparent that the cabinet is of better construction in these machines. I have an older VMW and when the outer tub smacks against the cabinet in an out of balance load the sheet metal cabinet flexes. It sounds like a drum. These new ones are solid!
