    Love/hate relationship with my Kirbys

Bit off topic but, are Kirby fans more prone to breaking than old Hoover or Eureka direct air machines? Reading these posts and just inheriting the grandparents’ old 1980 Eureka ESP got me wondering. I don’t remember any of our cleaner fans breaking while growing up. Or hearing of broken fans...

    Corkscrew Agitators

Thinking about this more, it seems that the WP DDs needed that corkscrew agitator more than others. Their tubs seemed narrower than others. Especially the large capacity units with an extra deep and narrow tub, needed help to push items down to the fins.

Whirlpool WTW4816FW3: Bad control board and Lowes warranty issues

lol uhhhh I’m pretty sure it’s NOT due to geography, but all to do with money, cost cutting, and turnover of management, marketing, and engineering turnover. And probably some outsourcing.

When and why did whirlpool stop installing the sound tuned absorbers in the Powerclean series?

I remember the Whirlpool display case our Sears had as a kid. They had PC motors in a clear box. One had a tuned absorber. One didn’t. The one without the absorber had a loud low tone drone. The tuned motor did not have the drone. But it’s not what I’d call quiet either. So it was a noticeable...

    1991 Whirlpool dishwasher Quitewash Plus..

Kudos to Whirlpool for keeping their portables on the US based Global Wash platform and not the Chinese unit everyone else has moved to. GE’s hard food disposer is FAKE. It’s been fake since the Triton XL era because they put the chopper blade behind all the filter screens. It does nothing but...

    Non-smelly dishwasher pods or tabs?

Dirty Labs powder actually worked really well in my KUDS25. But I needed to use 2 scoops for good results. And at that rate the Dirty Labs was just TOO expensive compared to the 7th Generation I typically use and get pretty much equal results.

    1991 Whirlpool dishwasher Quitewash Plus..

GE macerator Yes GE dishwashers had a “soft food disposer” which was a little spring wire that spun in front of a metal screen that had HUGE holes. The metal screen was then changed to plastic. And this is the style GE used up till the early 2000s when they came out with actual metal blades...

How did these KA dishwashers get water to the top rack?

What’s missing here? Oh yeah, nuance. I’ve had various tower machines in apartments. If they’re loaded carefully they do wash very well. Even in the upper corners. But the second you put plates too close to the tower, or a loathe pot that is too tall and shadows the upper corner above it...

    The Cool Wash Temperature

I’ll just note that depending on the model, when Hot is selected for front loaders, it’s not uncommon to get a cold or warm fill at first. And then its internal heater takes it the rest of the way. Often higher than 100F. Just fyi.

    The Cool Wash Temperature

Color me surprised and shocked but yes I agree with Chet on this one. And Laundress. My own tap water will fluctuate from the mid 60s in the summer, to damn near 50F in winter. Sometimes colder when we get our January deep freezes. My own tap water pipe is only 5ft under ground. That’s where it...

how long to wear jeans before washing them

Since I usually wear my jeans to work in an office job, I’ll wear them the whole week. If they get a little wet or dirty from a rainy day or if I’m doing dirty stuff in the lab, then they’ll go to the hamper, or I’ll save to the side for other dirty things that week.

Just when you thought you’ve seen it all on marketplace

There was a brief moment of time where cleaning in the upper rack of Point Voyagers was weak. This seemed to correlate with the time when detergent manufacturers were eliminating phosphates as reformulating their detergents. I think PV dishwashers might’ve been harder hit in this time frame...

    EPA Reversals

You’re a liar Jerome. So you’re telling me your Kenmore Bosch is just smearing dirt and grease around your dishes? How can you eat off that? Why don’t you go out and get a vintage dishwasher like many of us here? You’re all talk and no action.

    EPA Reversals

Uhhh I’m sure the Bosch engineers know what they’re doing with the spray patterns. Your feelings about water spray do not matter in sound design or sales decisions. Thank goodness for that.

    EPA Reversals

Why don’t you start a podcast Jerome? My favorite engineering quote is from a programmer; “Programming today is a race between software engineers building bigger and better idiot-proof programs. And the universe trying to build bigger and better idiots. So far the universe is winning. And...

Just when you thought you’ve seen it all on marketplace

Hmmm. I’m going to do something John, that certain people here don’t do. “I stand corrected!” Very interesting to find that these appliance valves are indeed mini versions of pilot valves. Right from the RobertShaw catalog.

    EPA Reversals

No. Nope. Nada. Nein. Nyet. Non. I’ve lived in a dozen apartments over the years. None of them had any 80s GEs. They were all early 90s at the latest. And yes many of my apartments were old. I stand corrected. I toured one apartment that has late 80s WP pre- power clean dishwasher. But that...
