Reply # 40 Chet I like both types myself, Had Speed Queen in the past and a Westinghouse that spin drained. The good thing about a direct drive is that they generally slip into spin drains anyway and you could always make them spend drain just by raising the lid and closing it.

Reply # 32 "This washer appears to be spin-drain, as all top load washers should be". Water still has to go through the clothes regardless of whether it spin drains or neutral drains. I would think a spin drain would force dirt and grit into the fabric more so than a free-flowing neutral drain.

I could always put the direct drive back in. I think it rinses better also.Probably what I'll wind up doing. It's also a lot easier to move..lol.

Reply #1 How cool Ben ! I've never seen any pictures of the first whirlpool machines. A couple of years ago I was passing an old appliance store and they had outside what looked like the first Kenmore automatic. It looked just like a Wringer. It must have been a bolt down. I have a video of it...

That machine looks substantial and love the commercial type wash arm.

Have you ever tried Palmolive ? That's the one I always use. It lasts quite awhile also. A little of that stuff goes a long way.

I know what the culprit is on my machine for the frothy wash. It's the self cleaning filter. It has a kind of underwater snorkeling sound to it that I can hear in the drain hose. I think it's a cool sound. It aerates the water and so I usually get froth or bubbles in the wash and rinse...
