Sounds like the pump bearings are locking up. You'll have belt residue around the pump pulley from the belt slipping if this is the case. The belt will also be glazed. That's an easy fix, replace the pump. New pumps available now are aftermarket. Their quality is unknown.

85-90F is perfectly fine for washing and rising, no need to adjust.

I'm strictly a top load user but if you're still having issues rinsing out detergent, keep scaling back until it's not a problem.
