What's Your Floorcare Routine? Mop and bucket? Swiffer? Broom?

Broom or vac followed by a good scrub with my Hoover floor mate. Have had some version of the Hoover since '73, got loads of floor to scrub, though now days it's just the Foyer, kitchen and back entry. I like the Hoover since it put down CLEAN water, scrubs, then vacs it up- no dirty water...

8 Reasons Using Liquid Detergent Is Better

Was at my local Meijer's (Michigan grown much like WM) and they had Tide, Tide with Oxy, Gain and several versions of Ariel and I think I saw some All, all in powder form. Was tempted but have a lot of liquid Persil, a lot of pods, and a quarter box of Tide powder.  Until I use much of that up...

Here we go again. Are we using too much detergent?

Not that I have any faith in this "expert", but I do only use 2TBS of Persil liquid in most medium sized loads and stuff comes out clean. I have to say I use the express cycle about 75% of the time on my Duets.  But they let me add 10 minutes to the cycle so it does a  good job overall.

    1980 NY Home For Sale

Interesting home with some very questionable decorating choices.

    What foods do you DESPISE!

I'm not sure where folks dislike for a food comes from, my hunch is much of it's psychological, a portion may be genetic. Growing up my brother and I were exposed to a vast array of food, and were encouraged to try everything. At almost 70 I can't think of any food I truly dislike, there are...

    What foods do you DESPISE!

I make a Polish version of head cheese, kholodets. It's an aspic made with pig hocks and various vegetables. Little  bit of work so I don't make it often.

    Made Mashed Potatoes

Not to hijack the thread, but how do you pressure cook with oil?  It's the steam that builds pressure, with oil you're not going to get that.

Thanks, next time I'm at Gordon's I'll pick some up, need a backup.

    Made Mashed Potatoes

Eddie, I use instant potatoes all the time.  I have instant mashed at least 3-4 times a week. I always do a meat of some kind, a vegetable, a starch and a very large salad for dinner. Grew up eating this way and stuck with it.  These days I generally do a quick cook dinner and instant potatoes...

    Junk store find.

Sorry to say the OXO has a stainless thermal carafe, no heating plate. Plus, it's intelligent - won't operate without the stainless carafe in place.

Automatic dishwasher detergent that will not dull dishes?

Agreed.  I have blocked 2 people and I don't recall who the second is anymore.

    Frozen Foods

Both my parents cooked when I was growing up.  I started baking when I was 10 or 11 and baked and cooked ever since, kind of second  nature. Interestingly, my  dad WWII pow, never had an issue helping around the house. Cook, bake, scrub the bathroom, not a problem for him.  Very unusual for his...

    Frozen Foods

I cook pretty much everything from scratch. I may have bought a frozen pizza once in the past 6 months. I was in Sam's the other day, I wandered up and down the food isles looking at all the highly processed food.  So much.  All filled with chemicals, all processed, all fairly pricey. I rarely...

First time I've ever called a plumber

Having installed many toilets, in my experience if a leak like this happened I'd pull  the toilet and replace the wax ring then tighten it down properly.  That is another reason I prefer the newer style rings. Also a prime example of why not to caulk around the toilet.

Whirlpool no longer an appliance technology leader?

The compact OTR microwave is designed to replace a traditional range hood that precluded the use of a standard OTR microwave. It was and is an innovation that solved a problem for many people.

    Vintage Food Advertisements: Part Twenty-two

Have not thought about Spudnuts for decades, remember them as a kid. Did a search, found a recipe. https://redstaryeast.com/recipes/spudnuts-glazed-yeast-doughnuts/

First time I've ever called a plumber

I have not used a wax ring in decades, much better options out there now.  Most are some sort of neoprene and most are reusable - plus no wax mess to clean up.

    Junk store find.

My OXO does what the old Chemex did.  It has a shower head, wets, pauses, then continues on with 196 degree water.  Makes some of the best coffee I've had.

    2003 GE Arctica

I agree with everything John said regarding SxS fridges.  For me much more convenient, I have 2.  I find it's better than having a freezer for storage.  The 2 SxS freezers hold a lot, plus the fridge section is great for food overflow during the holidays and drinks the rest of the year.   I'm...

First time I've ever called a plumber

Sounds like a diverter issue. It's a small round button like apparatus in the spout assembly.  I'd call Delta or ho ever made it and they should make things right.
