"Home Alone" House for Sale

No warnings here with my security... Interesting house. However there is no welcoming warmth, all white/grey with never ending dark wood floors, very much like living in a commercial office space.

    Rhubarb season, again!

Looks good, will try. My and numerous family members rhubarb originated from my grandparents, Odds are from the1920s. It's been split and moved with us from place to place, one tough plant.

    Tender-Matic instructions

I can't see anyone these days willing to leave a piece of raw meat in their oven for 8 hours, but that's me.
I make a well liked Pork Shoulder with a fresh herb rub that is slow roasted for 24 hours at 200 degrees, it's fall apart tender. At this point 4 or 5...

Best disposers -- vintage or modern?

So where does my Wp based Maytag/KA/Jenn Air from '72-73 and '88 fall in the scheme of things? In the 50+ years we've used them they have never jammed. I do wish the units reversed, would add life to the shredder ring. I know coming across a NOS shredder as I did a year or two ago will not...

    Kenmore/ISE disposal dead?

I have a Maytag/KA/Jennair disposal I installed in the late 80's that replaced a Maytag from the early 70's. Both were problem free, no issues at all. At some point I will be replacing my sink, bought a new shredder ring for it a while back and will reinstall for more years of use. Grinds what...

    room air conditioners 5345

I installed one of the U shaped ACs for a relative, nice unit. Very quiet. and efficient. But - minimum window size is important. Her window was just a shade smaller than minimum and it was a difficult install. Had to remove the sash and reinstall it after the unit was in place.

how to store soap detergent etc

I picked up a few boxes of Cascade at Kroger last year. They are large boxes but I was able to fit them in my largest vacuum sealed bag. If you have a large quantity some of those big storage bag you connect to a vacuum cleaner should do the same thing, you really want to keep moisture out.

question about lakewood p223 second gen boxfan

Just curious, when rebuilding a vintage box fan where do you get parts? I have a fan from thee early to mid 60's that works well but is missing knobs and the handle is so stiff I can no longer lift it. Also most to the guard clips on the back are broken and the grill is barely attached. It...

Induction for under $2,000.00: LG joins Frigidaire and Samsung

Those are decent prices. I paid $950 for my cooktop,, so $100 more for a range is not bad.

Let's talk jeans. Love them or hate them?

Sometimes it's good to change things up. I'm a Levi's 511/501 guy but most of the winter I enjoyed fleece sweat pants, never found some that were long enough. I'm 6'4" 165lb and all the sweats I tried years ago were 4" too short. Came across some reasonable price ones and they were an OK...

    Cascade Platinum over sudsing

Bob, I believe that- different machines and different water yields different results. Kroger had 18 packs of Finish for $3 with coupon so I bought a couple. Initially things were OK, but as time went on I found more and more items that were not clean. For me CP+ gets my silverware spotless no...

    1962 Magnavox Restoration

Growing up my folks bought a similar console but traditional styling about '62. It was an OK system for the time, when we got rid of it I did save the turntable - still have it tucked away in a closet somewhere. I remember enjoying how it managed to drop a 45 out of a stack of them, I think 7...

    Cascade Platinum over sudsing

It's got to be the water. I struggled through a few packs of Finish ultimate and just glad to be back to Cascade P+. I was washing smaller loads and still getting a share of stuff coming out dirty. My DW has ball bearing racks upper and lower and they stared to pull hard with Finish, a few...

Renewable energy powered 100% of CA needs for 25 of the last 32 days

Solar, wind and hydro met California's power demands for most of last month. Combined with battery it met the massive needs. Got to say I'm impressed.
This data comes via Mark Z. Jacobson, a Stanford University professor of civil and environmental engineering. Jacobson has...

    Housing market update

5-6-7% mortgages where standard for decades, many got spoiled with the 2% stuff. Remember you can always refinance if rates drop substantially.

    Neutral Drain Replacement

My mid 90's TOL electronic Kenmore had neutral drain for years, then it failed. I knew it was not an easy fix so I lived with it. I worried about the extra stress moving all that water plus a wet load of clothes had on the motor and transmission. Used it that way for years till I got my Duets. ...
