Have Increasing Energy Prices Caused Change in Your Laundry Routine

Yup, towels, bedding and such go in the dryer. The only downside is some stuff needs a light ironing, but I always do  that anyway.

Have Increasing Energy Prices Caused Change in Your Laundry Routine

I just put my shirts and sweaters on a hanger and let them dry.  Pants get hung from a clip type hanger the same way, no need for a clothesline.    Between using a FL washer and not tumble drying there is very little wear on my clothing.

Have Increasing Energy Prices Caused Change in Your Laundry Routine

As I mentioned in the past, my gas and electric rates are not terrible.  In  the summer I pay $20ish a month for gas.  Water heater set to maximum, gas cooktop, gas grill and gas dryer. However water is a killer.  I pay quarterly and it breaks down to $70/mo!   All toilets are low flush, I...

Have Increasing Energy Prices Caused Change in Your Laundry Routine

No, at least not recently.  I have a couple of Duets I've had for 10 or 11 years. Bought them to reduce water usage. Keep my gas water heater set as high as possible, hang dry clothing and only use my gas dryer for towels and bedding. I'm on a 3 tier electric rate system so tend to do laundry...

    Gas cooktop oddity

No, the gas line was only providing a trickle of gas.  At 10 PM they finished up installing the line, gas furnace going full blast, dual burner model, and the cooktop is working fine, one or all 4 burners it.

    Gas cooktop oddity

Unbelievable--mystery solved Called the utility out again. When the guy showed up he once again tested the pressure, 7" as it should be.  Then he came in the house and we lit the cooktop, fine, then the gas log, fine, then turned the furnace on, cooktop dropped to almost nothing, gas log was...

    Gas cooktop oddity

Well the mystery continues.  Had the utility co. out, they checked the pressure coming out of the meter.  Got 7 inches of water column, exactly what it should be.  After the guy left I tried it again.  Lit cooktop, fine; Lit gas log, fine; turned furnace on, not fine.  Cooktop had the tiniest of...

    Gas cooktop oddity

Thanks!   Mine is a cooktop, not range, but it  is from that time frame. Being in a fixed location it's less likely to have flexing stress as a range might have. I will look into it, was thinking about putting it on Craig's list when I swap it out for induction. Don't want t pas along an item...

    Gas cooktop oddity

Well, I think Eddie nailed it.  A little later I took a shower and the water seemed a little cool. Checked and the WH pilot was out, had to be a supply issue. Kind of odd for that, has has always been fail proof around here.   Was a little disappointed, might have given be a reason to drop my...

    Gas cooktop oddity

I have  Bosch/Seimens gas cooktop that has been in place for about 15 years.  Recently from time to time it operates at 1/3 power  but not all the time.  Today I was making pancakes and as I have always done I used the left burner.  It has dual concentric rings with flames both inner and outer. ...

    In defense of creaming

I think of Kelly often.  He enjoyed sharing his collection with many of us.. He gifted me a one slot KA toaster when I could not find a replacement that would fit my space,  still using to this day.

    New Dishwasher

I have a miss mash of appliances in my kitchen and over the years I've gotten much less anal about it.  Way back in the late '80s when I redid the kitchen, I fabricated panels for my SxS fridge  and the DW. Put in a bisque gas cooktop and a black wall oven. Well 4 or 5 years later the fridge...

Do you use Self-Clean on your oven?

I put in my new Samsung steam oven just before Thanksgiving.  I was careful and really liked it's pristine interior. Did all my holiday baking and cooking with just a few crumbs. Had a cousin staying for a few days and she wanted to make a breakfast and take it over to her brother.  Didn't think...

Incandescent light bulb BAN goes into effect next week

Yup, I've tossed dozens, but no where near hundreds.  Kind of hurt, a lot where specialty bulbs, but the cost of use outweighed  the cost to replace as electric rates went up..
