    7000 Tomorrows - WP & The 1964 World's Fair - 16mm

I've only been to one World's Fair, and that was in New Orleans, in 1984. My cousin Craig and I went because our cousin Mike was in a band that was performing there. I don't remember anything about any industrial displays, just exhibits from various countries. My neighbors up the street went to...

    Good Electric Cooking Burner

You can't expect much from one that cheap. Decent ones, such as Cadco brand with one 8" element, cost between $175. and $200. The model with a 6" element is a little less.

Seven-Segment LED, colors that seem to be in and out of fashion

I had one of those Sankyo alarm clocks in white. Some friends gave it to me as a HS graduation present in 1974. I used it for several years until I bought a clock radio. Not sure if I still have it.

    What? No "Touch-N-Cook"?

1979 That was the end of Frigidaire as a division of GM, which did not own it originally. The company was founded as Guardian Frigerator Co. in 1916, and bought by GM in 1919. WCI from them to 1987, when that company was acquired by Electrolux.

    What? No "Touch-N-Cook"?

Frigidaire no more? Why do you think that?

    Roper gas range help ;)

Wiring for range Would it be possible to run the wiring in conduit that is surface mounted? Why do you feel it would be difficult to tear out your basement ceiling? My house had 12" square acoustical tile on furring strips over 4'x 8' sheets of Upson Board, which was nailed to the joists. I...

    Range cleaning

I remember my mom cleaning the oven of the 1953 Westinghouse with the brush-on Easy-Off. It came in a glass jar, and the brush was attached to the lid.

    Cooking with gas burners

We always had an electric range during my lifetime. My mom said the 1953 Westinghouse was a pleasure to use, compared to the gas ranges used previously. They had lived in a trailer during the time my dad was in the army for the Korean War, and it had an LP gas range. The house previous to that...

    Modern Living: Part Sixteen

Vollrath Co. They are now one of the largest manufacturers of stainless steel cookware and utensils, primarily for the food service industry. I don't know when they stopped making enamelled ware, but it's been many decades. The Vollrath and Kohler (plumbing fixtures) families are related.

    Modern Living: Part Sixteen

I remember those fancy screen door grilles. We had one on the original metal front screen door; it was similar but not exactly like number 16. My mom's cousin Agnes had number 5 on her house in Mississippi.

    Iterations of the Waring Blendor

Speaking of Waring Blendors Our historical society was gifted a "hoarder house" recently, and there was one in the kitchen. It is probably from the late 60s or 70s, with a plastic container. We had a service, "College Hunks Hauling Junk", come in to get rid of a lot of things, so don't know if...

    Thor Automagic!

Eddie, the Thor Automagic was introduced much earlier, around 1946. I guess if it was going to "catch on", it would have done so by the time that show ran.

Maytag Presents: The Los Angeles Story - 16mm Film

The pre 1966 Highlander Maytags were of a totally different construction than their regular series. I've always thought they looked cheap. The 1966 and later Highlander series used the same cabinet as the more expensive models. Evidently the A207 my mom bought in 1973 was considered part of...

    Iterations of the Waring Blendor

My mom's first blender was a Waring, and she received it as a Christmas gift in the early 60s. I remember the glass container had the permanently attached blades, and it was a pain to clean. Sometime in the 70s someone gave an Osterizer to the church sale, so she bought it, and gave the Waring...

    Dish soap clogging dispenser

Speaking of Dawn, I saw it in 5 gallon containers while at GFS today. I don't remember how much it was. I usually use it, but currently have Palmolive.

    vintage telephones on moderm line

Until recently, the Cincinnati area had three area codes. 513 for OH, 859 for KY, and 812 for IN. For example, a subscriber in the Cincinnati exchange can call certain northern Kentucky and some nearby Indiana exchanges, most other 513, and selected 937 area code numbers, as a local call. When...

    Vintage Appliance Advertisements: Part Twenty-nine

Raytheon TV I wasn't aware they had made them. The company is well known, of course, for developing the microwave oven. I don't think I would have liked watching a "porthole" style screen. Nearly half the picture is cut off on a 1.37:1 Academy ratio film source.

    Bowling alley machinery 1950s-60s...

Bowling Alleys I pass by one about 12 miles from here on a regular basis, and it is still going strong. I've not bowled in a long time, but think I might enjoy doing so again.

    Thermador brand question

Thermador was a division of Norris Industries for many years, as was Waste King. As for Eichler houses, most were on the west coast, and Norris Industries was based in Vernon, CA, so it makes sense they would use a product made close by. Jamie mentions GE as a supplier of built-ins. I believe...
