    Vintage Food Advertisements: Part Twenty-three

Thank for the tip, Eddie. I'll have to try that. It's because of the saturated fat content that I can't eat either bacon or most kinds of cheese very often. I also remember Sizzlean. I don't know why they stopped having it.

    Vintage Appliance Advertisements: Part Twenty-eight

1942 ad Most likely the 1942 Crosley models began production in late 1941. It's very possible even if this was in a 1942 magazine, that the ad was prepared a few months earlier. For example, the January edition may have been printed in November of 1941. Last week I received the April, 2025...

    Vintage Appliance Advertisements: Part Twenty-nine

Vitalaire I can't imagine someone in 1937 wanting an icebox if they had electricity in their home. I suppose these ads were aimed at people who lived on farms that didn't have electricity available. The unit shown was probably nearly as expensive as an electric refrigerator.

    Vintage Food Advertisements: Part Twenty-three

The bacon and pineapple look really good! I wish I could eat bacon more often, but can only have two or three strips a month, unless I have the kind made with turkey. I think I'd like the spice cake with tropical frosting.

    Norge Double Rinse Tubs

The lady that was the sitter for my sister and I had metal double wash tubs on wheels. It and the wringer washer were located in the scary dimly lit basement of her old house. There was concrete double laundry tubs in the equally scary basement of the "hovel", which was a house I rented...

16" Emerson Electric Oscillating Fan Model 29648

Nice fan, Ralph. It reminds me of one my grandfather in Mississippi had. They didn't have electricity in their house until around 1947, so doubt he bought it new. It may have belonged to his parents, as they were well to do, and had electricity at their house in the 1920's.

A Royal Restoration - Summer of Love Speed Queens!

Evidently you mean McGraw-Edison, as McGraw-Hill is a book publishing company. Their air conditioner and dehumidifier brand was Thomas A. Edison.

    Modern Living: Part Sixteen

My friend Sam used to live in an old (circa 1900) house that still had a Siwelclo toilet. Evidently the manufacturer - Trenton Potteries Co. - was later bought by The Crane Co., which is now owned by American-Standard. I like the 1939 Huttig kitchen, especially the floor.

    Penncrest!

The fuse under the left rear burner is probably for the oven lights, cooktop light, receptacles, and anything else that operates solely at 120 volts on the appliance.

    Penncrest!

That should be really nice after you get it cleaned up. My Aunt Julie had the Kenmore like your previous range, and hated it from day one. As for the burners, some GE made ranges used the type with the integral trim ring/drip pan, while others had them as separate pieces. My cousins had a GE...

    Vintage Food Advertisements: Part Twenty-three

That Kraft Swiss Cheese ad reminds me of "Heidi", the 1937 Shirley Temple movie. If I ever go to Europe, Switzerland and Austria are where I want to go.

    "Industry on Parade" visits Maytag

This film features various industries in the early 50's, and is interesting on several levels. The Maytag segment starts at 26:15 minutes.

    GE profile filter-flo

I too am tired of hearing about it. I suggest they exchange phone numbers or email addresses, and discuss it all they want. John, blocking their posts might be something you could consider. I'm just going to skip over this subject from now on.

    Blackberry Dr Pepper

I like Dr. Pepper, but I get the original flavor in glass bottles, made with cane sugar. I drank the last one the other day, so need to go back to Jungle Jim's and get more.

POD 2-11-25 Whirlpool Imperial Mark XII Washer

Like Jamie says, and because the majority of Whirlpool washers and dryers were produced for Sears.

Early 50s Kenmore washer in Washington with other appliances

I suppose a Westinghouse refrigerator is less common than a GE, Hotpoint, Whirlpool, or Kenmore from the same time period. As I said, it's just trim that's on the TOL models; the less expensive models had plain doors. I see that the oven has a rotisserie. The 1953 Westinghouse Imperial 30 range...

Early 50s Kenmore washer in Washington with other appliances

Those are just decorative trim inserts on the door. You could get various color panels to go in them. The refrigerator and freezer sections are full width.

Now they went and changed Ivory soap

It's probably been 10 or more years since I've purchased any bar soap. Currently I just use shampoo in the shower, and either dish detergent or liquid hand soap otherwise. I recently bought some Target Up & Up Hawaiian Gardenia hand soap that smells good.

Now they went and changed Ivory soap

Kevin, it was actually the other way around. SBSC closed because P&G (their major customer) found another manufacturer to make their products. They were in the middle section of the factory complex. The east end is still occupied by Proctor & Gamble and the west end is the Crisco plant, operated...

Now they went and changed Ivory soap

To the best of my knowledge, Ivory was being made for P&G by the St. Bernard Soap Co., which was in part of the old P&G complex in Cincinnati. That facility closed about a year ago after loosing the contract, and is now for sale or lease. I go past it frequently.
