What's Your Floorcare Routine? Mop and bucket? Swiffer? Broom?

If floor needs scrubbed with a brush, I have a couple that an extendable handle fits onto. The handle also fits a floor squeegee I use for the basement, which has a polished concrete floor. It has drains, so can rinse with a hose if necessary, but that requires moving a lot of stuff.

What's Your Floorcare Routine? Mop and bucket? Swiffer? Broom?

I had a Swiffer Wet Jet a few years ago, but thought it just smeared dirt around on the floor. More recently I've been using a sponge mop and double bucket, with soapy water in one side, and clean rinse water in the other. If the floor was really dirty, I rinse again with clean water. My sister...

    Kenmore Soft Heat

My aunt had a KM dryer she got sometime in the late 70's that had Wrinkle Guard. She liked it because if she was busy doing something else, such as cooking, on the phone, or watching a show, she could wait until she finished, and the clothes wouldn't have wrinkles.

Looking for a GE Americana SxS Refrigerator

My cousin Mike had the 36"model in Avocado, just like in the Brady house. He bought it used sometime in the mid 80's. I don't know if he still has it or not, as I've not seen him for about 30 years. I tried to talk my parents into buying one like that when I first saw them in 1969, but they...

    1980 NY Home For Sale

The kitchen reminds me a lot of the one in a neighbor's house, built about the same time. It, the laundry, and bathrooms look pretty nice. The upstairs view of the stairwell makes me think of the lobby in a motel I stayed in once. Lordy, that red bedroom is awful. It does look like something...

    Vintage Food Advertisements: Part Twenty-two

I've heard of Spork (their version of Spam) before, but not Speef. Burry's was the manufacturer of Girl Scout Cookies for this region for many years. I remember getting Hunt's Hickory Catsup a few times when I was a kid. Got the Pizza flavor once but didn't like it.

    New Detergent Ratings

That's definitely Chris Knight, and was probably done right before he began playing Peter Brady in '69. I have multiple pics of him, most from the publicity department of ABC-TV. He was overall my favorite "Brady", and the show was something I watched every week without fail. In the Summer of...

A Bird in the Dryer Vent

One day about 40 years ago I kept hearing a noise in the laundry room. I tracked it down to the Maytag HOH dryer, which was not being used at that moment. I opened it and looked in, but saw nothing inside. I was afraid it was a bat, so turned it on to either blow it back out, or have it meet its...

My Summer of Vintage Washer Rubber Reproduction

Interesting process Kind of reminds me of a "mad scientist's" laboratory. I didn't realize there was that much involved.

    What foods do you DESPISE!

My buddy Sam worked at the Sabatasso division of Schwan Foods in Florence,KY for two or three years back in the late 90's. They made Tony's, Red Baron, Little Charlie's, and Freshcetta pizzas. Seems like I had pizza about everytime I was over at their house during that time.

    Made Mashed Potatoes

Matt, if you like instant mashed potatoes, you might want to try Excel Potato Pearls by Basic American Foods. My sister gets them at Gordon Food Service, and usually gets either the Nature's Own or Creamy Butter with Skins, though they have several other varieties. They come in a bag that makes...

    SCORE!! NOS Westinghouse mixer

Portable Mixers Hamilton Beach had a really good one (Mixette) in the 50's when it had a metal housing. I have the one that was my mom's, Sometime in the early 70's I got her a new one as a gift. By then it was plastic, didn't work as well as the old one, and the detachable cord would keep...

I think it's something rather recent, and made by some company that licensed the use of the brand.

Vintage Hotpoint Refrigerator $1,000 Listed a week ago a week ago in Cambridge, OH

Hotpoint finish John, I'm going by Hotpoint's advertising for the Customline appliances. The ads for some of the items are a little vague, indicating they are available in "gleaming stainless finish" or "stainless satin-chrome". However, the specifications for the built-in cooktops plainly...

    Doris Day kitchen

I'm almost certain that's in the Beverly Hills house on Crescent Dr. She and her at the time husband Martin Melcher purchased it in the mid 1950's. She lived there until she built a new home in Carmel, CA. Yes, the sink faucet is American-Standard, as my dad's aunt and uncle had one like it...

    GE Jet 105 Microwave.

Our church kitchen has one like that the last time I was there, but it hasn't worked for a long while. It's used to store crackers, chips, etc. My sister also had one that looked much the same, but was a Hotpoint.

    Worse invention of last 30yrs...

I've noticed vehicle headlights bothering me more in the last couple years, and thought it was just my eyes. As for outdoor lighting, the RLM type fixtures direct all the light downward, so don't cause so much light pollution. I think they look better, too...
