Is this a 57 or 58? I can't remember which year Hotpoint introduced the coaxial tranny where there is a pause between agitate and spin as opposed to jumping right into spin a la Speed Queen and Maytag AMP like Robert's 56 Hotpoint does.

The Hotpoint probably overrides and rinses in cold water if the wash temp is set to cold regardless of what the rise temp is set to. Our old 59 GE rinsed in cold if the wash temp toggle switch was set to cold even if the rinse toggle was set to warm.

They were well built machines and had some of the most interesting cosmetic features. I loved how Kenmore washers of the late 50's to mid 60's had different colors for each cycle. But that 525 RPM spin was pathetic. My father liked Sears Kenmore products because he knew they were well built but...

Gotta love the little boy wearing his mom's apron. I'm sure he loves operating her Westinghouse Laundromat. He's probably a member of our club now!

    Whoa! TOL living

I have two 1-18's in perfect working condition. I have one hooked up and the other as a back-up. Right now I use the hooked-up 1-18 for perm press and large loads and a late 60's solid tub Speed Queen for sheets, towels and smaller loads.

The control panel looks like an Apex but the tub and agitator remind me of a Thor. Did you notice it rinses with hot water?

    P.O.D. 28th Nov. 2016 Universal...

There was a 1947 Universal window air conditioner in my junior high algebra classroom that some parent had donated. A few years ago one of our members came across one exactly like it but I don't remember who. One of my parents neighbors had a Universal chest-type freezer in their garage.

Over 5 Years Later, I'm Ready to Run the Unused 1962 General Electric Filter-Flo

Hey Robert, does the 62 have a spray rinse during the first spin? I wasn't sure what year GE added that and discontinued the "suds kill" pause.

What did you do with the 61? I remember using it at one of your wash-ins.

    She's just so damn pretty

Beautiful! I love GE's from late 50's to early 60's. I wish I still had my Aunt's 59 filter flo. Congrats to you for this awesome find!

what would be your dream vintage washer dryer set

Mine would probably be either the very rare 1958 Kenmore timeline or the 1959 GE filter flo.

Question for the vintage Norge macherim-----

In my southwest Atlanta neighborhood we had a Norge Village laundromat. It still had some solid tub machines with the overflow rinse towards the back of the laundromat and in the front some newer perforated tub models. There was also a Frigidaire coin laundry that had the mid 60's jet cone...

Question for the vintage Norge macherim-----

Atlanta appliance stores Steven, you know your Atlanta history well! Rich's was indeed the big GE dealer here so there were a lot of Filter Flos around when I was growing up in the 60's. They also sold a lot of Fedders air conditioners. Plus for a while they sold some machines with the AMC...

Question for the vintage Norge macherim-----

Do you by any chance have a video of the machine agitating? I'd love to see a look at in in operation.

Question for the vintage Norge macherim-----

Thanks for the great photos. I notice on the 62 that you get a cold rinse with a hit wash but a warm rinse with a warm wash. Very interesting. When I was a child a neighbor of ours had a similar machine to the 82. Not sure the exact year but the timer dial was very similar to this except the...

Son who loves washers and dryers

I became interested in washers at an early age like Evan. This is me approx age 3 or 4 with my Mom's 1955 Hotpoint.
