A woman I worked with years ago was from Slovenia as was her husband. His brother was a big deal at VOA, but hopefully he is long since retired and dead. What an ignominious end to a famous, long time institution. Glad you still have a job.
Warm rinsing came to be used when laundering with soap. When washing was done by hand, the clothes were boiled to dissolve and remove the soap. Soap had to be removed from fabrics with warm water at least in the first rinse when using a wringer washer. In winter weather, the tap cold water was...
Don't sweat it. Just add a tablespoon of Sodium Tripolyphosphate to the modern detergent and you will get great results. I have fond that modern detergents with the STPP give much better results with removing starch stains/film from pans. than older formulas.

My first thought was that she walked right in from all of that mud and did not change shoes. Glad you noticed that she was wearing different shoes. We had outside shoes and house shoes. People used to kid that near our back door looked like a Japanese house.
I wonder why the...
The main advantage to the TK elements is that unlike the Corox elements, the entire surface of the unit is heated at all heat settings. That is also the primary disadvantage of them and the added bulk it presents, just like Radiantubes.
Tappan's miserable attempt. The theory was that as a truck tire picks up and flings water, this rotating drum would do the same in two directions. Unfortunately, the drum in the dishwasher did not have tread like a truck tire. The drum did reverse directions and that was why there were detergent...

I have one of these ranges. It is 20 inches wide which can be proved by looking at the 24" GE next to it. The oven uses open coil heaters. A friend's mom had a collection of cookbooks and range manuals and one of the manuals was for a Pre-1950 Frigidaire range and I was intrigued by the heating...
I wonder if the newer one rinse machines have nylon coated racks because the nylon stands up better to the detergent rich environment in one rinse machines than the vinyl rack coating does.
Decades ago, I found a machine like this, although a built in model. It was out on the curb in front of a circa 1956 house on Reno Road in upper NW DC. I got someone to go with me and I put it in the back of my Toyota Celica. That beautiful timer lens was broken. I remembered it from the...
How to keep your racks from rusting
When the machine drains after the main wash, it will fill with about a quart of water which it circulates
to flush the filter. I kept my racks from rusting by standing by it with a 4 quart pitcher of hot water which I poured in as soon as the fill stopped...
