    "Final Arrangements" For Your Collection

I’m “only” 37 and I’m sure there are other members in their 40s and under ( not sure exactly how old you are as you’re contemplating such things). I’m slowly restoring my 1904 craftsman and since modern appliances didn’t generally exist prewar I’ve settled on 40s and 50s appliances (and some...

Heads Up! Vintage *Pink* Maytag W&D Set

Can y’all help me understand how high end and or rare this set is? I really want a suds saver but this set looks immaculate. I’m in Oregon and could make a trip out of it if they’re worth it. I don’t really have the space to collect washers and dryers either so I’m trying to patiently wait until...

1962 Frigidaire imperial refrigerator - not working

Hi there, I am looking at getting a 1962 Frigidaire imperial refrigerator off marketplace. However, it currently does not work. Last I had chatted with the current owner. They said the compressor wouldn’t come on at all and at that point it sounded like it could be a simple electrical issue...

    Maytag hierarchy question

That's helpful, thanks! So what makes a series? what are the "bookends"? EG sounds like AX08 to AX12 would be the high end models...? what are some rarer high end machines that you covet?

    Maytag hierarchy question

So in reading posts, I’ve come to realize that there seems to be a complicated Maytag (washers and dryers both) hierarchy that I still do not fully understand. Has someone covered this in another thread or is there a resource available? How do y’all know that an if an A808 is better than an...

    57/58 frigidaire DW-DUZ repairs

Patrick/Pdub - thanks for the suggestion. I called them and they looked at the motor. It needs to be re-wound which would cost $450. Thats seems reasonable considering the time he'd have to put into it. Before committing to this, as its moderately crazy, I thought id ask if folks have parts or...

    57/58 frigidaire DW-DUZ repairs

I'm getting conductance thru the switch when activated, so I dont think thats the issue. Rather im suspect of the wound wires having only 2-3 ohms resistance to the motor casing. Can anyone recommend who might re-wire this? I'm in the Portland Oregon area. Without a re-wire i have a very large...

    57/58 frigidaire DW-DUZ repairs

May have found the issue. When I check resistance from the case to the black wire in the foreground I get infinite ( I would expect this). When I check resistance between the red and black in the foreground connected when the black spring gizmo is depressed I get a solid connection / 0 ohms...

Trying to lift stain from vintage silk scarf

If you’re willing to throw in the towel then I would suggest trying the hydrogen peroxide. I’ve tried that on white wool with red wine stains and it completely removes it every time. I don’t even spot test wool anymore, I just wet the entire sweater in the bathtub and then dump as much peroxide...

Germany Shutting last three nuclear power plants

Bradfordwhite - There is a big point to be made here. All power generation that we have generates waste. Even the “cleanest” forms tend to require development and construction, or (mined) products that result in sometimes awful environmental degradation ( usually in counties with poor...
