On the hunt for an electric percolator

My new percolator arrived and it is beautiful and works well however I have learned the downside of an electric percolator. You really have very little control over strength of brew. I guess a Chemex makes much stronger coffee which I like versus old-fashioned weak diner style coffee. Unless I...

    New Detergent Ratings

Project Farm test laundry detergents! I love Project Farm on YouTube for all the stuff he will test out, usually things like oils, rust inhibitors etc but looks like he recently tested detergents. TLDR Tide wins with Arm and Hammer taking second. I’m bummed by how poorly some others did, I...

On the hunt for an electric percolator

Thanks everyone for the tips! I’m “only” 38 so I definitely do not remember the coffee from the 50-70s (hence why I’m so excited!). I’ll play with the settings a bit but will see about the hole size. I grind my own beans so I could also do a coarser grind. Eddie, can you extrapolate on what...

    LED bulbs

I did the same as Greg. Big reduction in power consumption, which saved me money, which was great however they do not last long. I’ve probably replaced about a quarter of all my LEDs in any given year as they just start to randomly flicker. Maybe it’s a brand issue, but I think I bought almost...

On the hunt for an electric percolator

Bought a GE potbelly! Excited for when it arrives; I liked the look as well as the ability to control strength and warm vs brew settings. Been playing with my 56 liberator timed oven and timed outlet and both seem to work great! Can’t wait to wake up to the smell of coffee already brewing!

    Canning bolognese in an oven

When my dad was a boy in 50s Maine, people died from polio, botulism in inappropriately canned products, and went blind from attempting to make their own bathtub booze (Unknowingly making wood alcohol instead). None of these are things to trifle with. Length of time boiling is irrelevant...

On the hunt for an electric percolator

I have seen some really cute potbellies and they generally look like they’re smaller, which is a plus. I am almost always making coffee just for myself and the one stovetop percolator I have is for at least 12 cups and the few times I tried using it, It just doesn’t seem to brew small quantities...

On the hunt for an electric percolator

Great feedback Eddie, thanks! I’m not really worried by aluminum causing flavor problems but I would like to avoid it since aluminum is soluble in acids and coffee is slightly acidic and I’d be a little leery of using it long term. I suppose immediately removing the basket and stem would help...

On the hunt for an electric percolator

I did notice several brands of what appeared to be the same unit. They all look fabulous! Do you know if they have a warm setting? Some seem to have a switch while others seem to automatically hold at a warming temperature after brewing. I don't know how to tell that, though.

On the hunt for an electric percolator

I’ve been doing some research as to what kind of vintage perc I want and thought I’d check this group for either advice or in case you’re downsizing a collection (for example I saw an old post where Eddie did this very thing). I’d like electric (to plug in to my new 56 GE Liberator!), a model...

What's everyone using for laundry detergent these days?

Has anyone heard of or used Mozi Wash? It just popped up on my socials and sorta caught my eye and seems to have decent reviews. I like the idea of an eco detergent with clean / streamlined packaging, and that might smell like higher-end fragrances and colognes. It’s not cheap but that would...

Reproduction Rubber Kenmore Scrubber Caps and GE Filter-Flo Mounts now Available

Just when I think I’m observant…. I did a load of wash yesterday and noticed my 57 has a pink cap and a grey “base”. I wonder if it was an early variant where GE was using up old parts? The OCD person in me will be happy to have all-pink soon to match the trim/ dials/ buttons elsewhere. Had me...
