Household trash compactors vs plastic bottles

to be clear Refuse is not recycled. It’s trash. Recycling is not perfect but it does reduce the amount of single use crap in the world. Ideally we would all consume less, yes. Michigan’s 10 cent deposit ( the highest for decades and all while I grew up there) has also resulted in its roadways...

    Ironrites

Occasionally, I will see Ironrites and other ironing devices come up for sale or for free. I am wholly uninitiated in how these work, if they’re affective and I’m curious if folks use them, swear by them, etc.? Is it worth adding to the collection? Are they supposed to save time versus and iron?

    Phosphate dishwasher detergent problems

I assume you know this but setting a water heater to 160 degrees is very high (sounds terrifying to me) and could burn unsuspecting guests, not to mention its raising your energy bills unnecessarily. It also may be stressing parts that are probably better suited to no more than 140. 120 is the...

    Fusing Mag. Concert Grand

Can't edit...but as a "take away", i wouldn't honestly bother to fuse but whatever helps you sleep at night :). If you do fuse, ive only heard of a single fuse at the plug/before the power transformer....IMO less is more - ive had great success mucking things up by going overboard but once again...

    Fusing Mag. Concert Grand

This is my dream console...but my house is full of radios and phonos that I think that ship sailed. I don't really hear of people fusing antique stereos, and I've never had any issues after replacing the caps. This is no normal set - only doctors and the wealthy could have afforded these in...

Rewiring stove top elements on a 1954 GE Stratoliner

Hi there, Please provide pics and more detail. 1. Wires don't usually go bad, so unless you have a reason to replace i would leave it alone. There is nothing wrong with cloth covered wiring unless mice ate through the fabric etc. Depending on where the wires are, the risk of disturbing...

1950s GE frig with Swing out shelves FREE Oregon

Tillamook isn’t too far from me, but every darn refrigerator that pops up is always right hand swing and I need a left hand 😭

    Can anyone identify this dryer?

I'm really bad with dating these, i guess i was thinking it was closer to ~2000!

    Can anyone identify this dryer?

Curious if this is at all unique, special etc. I thought the color was different - graphite? With a digital panel? No match washer that I am aware of to go with it.

    57/58 frigidaire DW-DUZ repairs

Well I’m bummed. I’ve looked thru the schematic and checked the various parts. I’m used to antique radios which have a lot of resistors and resistance. This dw seems pretty simple ( and yet I still can’t fix it haha). The drain solenoid works and only has around 5 ohms resistance. Generally...

    57/58 frigidaire DW-DUZ repairs

I’ve already removed the motor, put a new gasket in it, removed rust and painted it etc. the impeller rotates freely by hand. I’m looking at the schematic now and it does look like the drain solenoid engages regardless of the start switch being activated so maybe I just need to play with it more.

    57/58 frigidaire DW-DUZ repairs

Well I plugged it in without hooking up water. The start switch might be internally stuck in the on position as I don’t need to touch it for things to come alive. The drain flapper activates (good) when it should be circulating water eg on wash cycle ( once again without touching the start - I...

    57/58 frigidaire DW-DUZ repairs

Fixed the switch or at least got it moving. Everything is wired up and ready to hook up water and test it! Still need to clean it tho - pretty dirty and rust spots. Even the chrome has pitting. If it works well it might be worth fixing all that…..later haha

    57/58 frigidaire DW-DUZ repairs

DaDoes - You found the old thread, yes (thanks!). Since the start button is stuck I have no idea if its in the on position, off position etc. It just "is" haha. I guess i'll find out when i connect it. I'll try to fix it as I'm a sucker for stock and it should light up which is nifty...

    57/58 frigidaire DW-DUZ repairs

Original thread was too old to pick up I guess so starting a new one… I’ve reassembled the motor and drain line and put new cork gaskets on. I think I’m ready to hook up the garden hose and temporarily wire it to see what happens. Some questions tho- The heating element is crusted in white...

    1965 Kenmore 70 Coppertone Set

When do locals get to visit Jon!? 🤪 Sounds like you’re building quite the collection! I passed on a 50s kenmore 110 dryer in nice working shape this weekend at an estate sale off 205. It was a bit small and plain considering that I don’t have the space to really collect more than one set sadly...

    Anyone recognize this Kenmore dryer?

I feel like I’m getting some mixed feedback haha, but generally no resounding “yes this is amazing” , “you need to get this/save this etc”. This may also be somewhat of a basic model? Also guessing the odds of finding a matching washer are low, and perhaps it might not even spin clothes enough...

    Anyone recognize this Kenmore dryer?

Is anyone able to identify what this model and year might be? Was it a good dryer? rare? Is there anyway to tell if it’s electric or gas? Thanks!
