How to fix a broken GE Adora

All fixed! I’d like to thank John Lefever for offering valuable insight and assistance on this repair project, especially regarding parts acquisition. My folks live in the Washington, DC area, so he was local. I put everything back together and now it’s working perfectly, dare I say, even...

How to fix a broken GE Adora

I pulled out the washer and opened it up. 1, the aluminum basket drive pulley has some corrosion. This does not bode well. 2. There is evidence of a leak from the rear bearing. The telltale stain on the floor of the machine is a good indicator of an issue. 3. A closer view of the corrosion...

How to fix a broken GE Adora

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted, but this is worth it. My parents bought a Chinese made GE Adora front loading washer and dryer set in 2006. The washer has been a disappointment since the day it was delivered. It’s cycle times ranged from very long to “You have GOT to be kidding me!” The...

Giving away two 1950's portable dishwashers.

I just sent you an email. I think the GE is the portable equivalent to Dishwashercrazy's 1949 GE Electric Sink. What can anyone tell me about these early GE Mobile Maids? Dave

Can someone pin a date on this vintage belt drive?

1972 70 Series ElginKid has this in Harvest. I LOVE this washer! It's quiet, the Roto Swirl does a great job, the detergent dispenser is fun, and it sounds soothing. Bonus points if its a suds saver. I might be interested in some parts if this one gets partd out. Dave

Frigidaire unimatic WDU-57 Motor start capacitor

It's a Unimatic It's in good hands with Mark. I'm watching this one VERY closely because I have a Unimatic to restore as well. I have exactly zero experience working on Frigidaire laundry and I don't want to screw it up. Is anyone else putting off projects because you're afraid of them...

    WANTED: Whirlpool Belt Drive Washer

I have a newer version. It needs a fair bit of work. It's a white 1970s regular capacity, suds saver, and it's a lower MOL machine. It has the controls in a big bump-out on the right side. I'll try and get a pic or two when I'm home, but I'd imagine it's about a decade newer than you'd like...

    Today's "off-brands" and lesser-seen appliance names

It's an old trick. Resurrect a defunct brand name, people will recognize it & think it's the same good quality brand they had years ago. In reality, it's just a name slapped on whatever's cheap to make. WCI did it for years. They would buy out a company, build the cheapest design in the...

Help on an Early SQ Perf Tub Washer Please.

The red thing is a plastic helix. This washer uses a reversing motor. In one direction, the pulley rids on the bottom of the helix. In the other direction, the pulley rides up to the top of the helix and hits the brake. Dave

Help on an Early SQ Perf Tub Washer Please.

I'm sorry for not posting recently. My life has sort of exploded and I've just been dealing with too much stuff. One of my friends has an early SQ perf tub coin-op washer that is giving trouble. It's early enough that it has a belt driven pump. He's pretty much taken this washer apart and...
