Turquoise Kitchen and time warp basement in IOWA!

What a weird mix of 60's and late 70's (the black bathrooms scream late 70's even early 80's Color Tile special). I love the kitchen and some of the light fixtures but a lot of it seems, well, disjointed.

News To Me re: SS United States

Seeing her from the waterfront street is pretty spooky - I should scan my photos and post them at some point. I'm glad I had a non-flying mother and we sailed on the last Stefan Batory and QE2. But not with this lovely lady, her husband, sister and brother in law....

So, like, are all the Volvo owners on AW named Dave or what?

1966 Timewarp Home for Sale in Arizona

That is one of the most insane houses I've seen in a long time. All that rough white brick was totally cutting edge at the time. But I'm amazed at all the chrome most of all.

    Montgomery Ward Catalog

Didn't Margaret Cho have a bit about going to Montgomery Ward's when she was growing up? I can't ever remember going in one as a kid - there wasn't one in the loop or mall we would go to, so everything was Sear's or Marshall Field's (with Carson's and JCP thrown in for good measure), but I too...

    Fall is offically here

I got treated to a behind the scenes tour of a Bloomingdale's store for work recently (nothing to do with retail, we were inspecting the property for the owners) and they have their Christmas stuff rarin' to go in the stockrooms.

Stupid O'keefe & Merritt Wall Oven Rotisserie/grillevator questions

Did you ever figure out the rotisserie parts? Some of mine have gone awol over the years and I have no idea what would be required to get mine working again (meat probe is higher priority at the moment). I think the grillevators were optional - you could trick out the range/oven any way you wanted.

Finn Juhl Danish Modern modular Cresco unit.

Very nice, my grandmothers "danish modern" stuff was Scandinavian Bouffant* (i.e. knockoff stuff) - Finn Juhl's house is open for visitors and features a lot of his designs, often heavy on accent colors with the teak. Is the teak solid or veneer - I think that it would have still been solid at...

    1972 is alive--timecapsule untouched kitchen

Is that electric baseboard heat or gas hydronic? It's nicer inside than I expected from the kitchen (honestly, don't really like it very much, but the photos aren't that great either).

Okeefe and merritt oven pilot and saftey valve, how it works?

I think he's mostly worried because pilot lights are unknown for the most part in Sweden and gas ranges almost unheard of in Sweden (only a few bigger towns still have gas service, and I think Scania [only place I've ever heard of domestic gas heating in Sweden - it's normally electric, district...

    Bath Towels

I have some cool towels from Target, but they aren't great quality. IKEA used to have sandpaper bath towels. My Bloomingdale's and Marshall Field's towels have held up pretty well, obviously both are Macy's now.

    Brady Bunch House ?

I'm surprised that nobody's mentioned that Jan (what is her real name, Eve Plumb?) just sold the beach house she bought her parents when the show was on!

Okeefe and merritt oven pilot and saftey valve, how it works?

I had to replace my pilot assembly when I took possession of my OkM. The gas consumption's not a problem with piped gas supply, but since that existerer inte i Sverige, det kanske blir ett problem för dej.

Art Deco Appliance Lecture in Chicago - Late Notice

I'm leaving shortly - it's just minutes away. Though isn't OkM an LA brand (which I have)? This is focusing on designed and manufactured in Chicago. Will update after.

Art Deco Appliance Lecture in Chicago - Late Notice

For those of you in the Chicago area there is a lecture tonight sponsored by the Chicago Art Deco Society all about vintage appliances. I gather it will focus specifically on those produced and/or designed in the Chicago area. Should have posted this sooner if there is anybody interested here...

Looking for "new" used vehicle opinions again...

Yeah, the quality went down from what I hear, once Ford bits starting appearing. A friend of mine owned Jaguars (and Volvo's*) back in the day, i.e. 70's when she was rich, aka married to a doctor and running his practice. She said the joke about needing the mechanic first and then buying the...
