Time for a new (not vintage) dishwasher

If you live in an area with hard water.... ...consider a DW with a built-in softener. We installed the SS version of the black Bosch model linked below several years ago and even with our rock-hard water here in TN everything comes out perfectly shiny and film-free with just a single Quantum...

Bosch Dishwasher (5 years old) - Not cleaning very well all of a sudden

I have a Bosch model with a softener (in an extremely hard water area) and I use the Quantum Powerball tabs all the time with Somat rinse aid, and everything always comes out clean and shiny. So I'm not sure how that could cause any huge issues....? While you are checking into mechanical /...

Miele Little Giant PW6065 - I think I might be nuts but...

The Octoplus larger (8k) machines are available now too in the US, even with a drain pump model. Not quite clear on how the electrical requirements stack up but if you need bigger, you can get it now. They do, however, probably make the Little Giants look affordable...

P&G Tide "Pods" Killing the Laundry Soap Industry?

I have to say, we gave the Pods a good run at our house - 2 1/2 big packages I believe. They really worked well at cleaning almost everything, removing both stains (except for some oil-on-cotton ones) and odor and leaving everything feeling relatively soft coming out of the dryer w/o any fabric...

    Help purchasing new dishwasher

The Bosch you are considering does NOT have a built-in softener. Keep that in mind with your hard water situation. If you can swing a couple hundred more, the softener is absolutely worth it!!

    Help purchasing new dishwasher

Bosch here - replaced a KA TT that tried (repeatedly) to catch on fire. We also have rock-hard water where I live and the built-in softener has been nothing short of a revelation! Now, instead of having to add Lemi-shine (while risking ruining some things) to every load to counter limescale...

Any Updates on Grease Spot Removal ?

The trick I've found with Dawn, for dried-in oil stains, is time. Lots of time. I've left it on for 24++ hours before to really try and work on a tough stain, and it almost always works. As long as it is the plain blue kind, it shouldn't hurt to leave it on that long. The other option is...

    Sears Ultra Plus

A few questions about Ultra Plus: - I've heard rumblings that the formulas for Sears Ultra Plus varieties might have changed and are now less-dissolvable / more "gritty". Has anyone seen this recently? Or is this just some folks complaining who don't know what they are doing? - I know all...

    Rinse aid question

I have a Bosch DW w/ softener that was installed earlier this year and I also noticed that some things (mainly plasticware) were quite wet at the end of pretty much any cycle. This was especially true compared to our old KA TT model, which got everything bone dry. I do use Quantum tabs and...

    Favorite Movie or TV Kitchen

My other favorites are ~totally~ different - the space kitchens from 2001. I don't care if the food was liquid or mushy, the designs were both futuristic yet practical for their environments.

    Tide Pods

I tried about 2 1/2 containers of them. They were extremely convenient and worked really well on most stains and better than almost anything on greasy, oil-on-cotton stains. That being said, after the 2 1/2 containers I started to break out / itch out really bad, as did my boys. So that...

    Dishwasher Detergent Blues....

Having a Bosch DW with a built-in softener has been a real revelation. We were having significant liming issues with our rock-hard water here in MiddleTN that even regular LemiShine or additional STPP wasn't quite addressing. Since we got the Bosch every single thing has come out clean and...

    New GE top loaders

Comprehensive, but perhaps cluttered and too much for the average user? If I wasn't worried about long-term reliability I'd love a touchscreen model with a lot of built-in cycles plus the ability to access most/all settings and customize and save your own cycles. That way you'd have complete...

    Cabrio In The Lab

One odd (but good) think I've noticed is that the dryer seems a lot less likely to "log-up" a set of sheets that include a fitted sheet. Our last one - a Bosch Nexxt - would roll 'em up tighter than a Cuban cigar in no time. This one hasn't yet, in spite of having no fancy reversing cycles as...

    Cabrio In The Lab

We just got our new Cabrio set last week, and so far I've been very pleased with the results. Clothes seem to come out clean w/o a huge amount of tangling. Occasionally there will be an item or two twisted up, but never one big ship's rope of clothes. No idea about long-term roughness on...

Bosch Nexxt W/D set in TN

Funny you should mention that...the very last thing I had done to it - in the waning days of its extended warranty - was to have the plastic control panel replaced because it had cracked. And sure enough, when I just now went downstairs and looked the new one has a tiny hairline crack coming...

Bosch Nexxt W/D set in TN

Guys, I'm going to be buying a new W/D set in the next week or so so I need to either sell or dispose of my current set, a Bosch Nexxt 500-series pair (platinum color), including attached short pedestals. The washer is in great working condition, mold free and has a built-in heater that'll...
