    Speed Queen washer for sale

"I'm selling my 1994 Ford Escort. It may not look like all that but it's a Ford. And Dood they have been making Fords for like a hundred years so you know it's all good."

What Do We Think Of Asko

I guess if I were to consider a used Asko, I'd want to know about parts and service availability for older machines. Or at least the parts, since I'm usually willing to dive into a machine to see if I can fix it.

    Heat Pump Dryers....

If you know your energy costs and what the two machines consume, then you can calculate an annual operational cost for both. You can then calculate a simple payback analysis to see how long it would take you to recoup the cost difference. If it were me, I'd also take into account the warranty...

Is this a bad location for a dishwasher? -PICS-

You have a beautiful home. Back in the late 1950s/1960s, roll-around dishwashers were popular. You would cook, eat, and then roll the dishwasher into the kitchen so you could connect it to the kitchen faucet. Built-in dishwashers didn't become popular until the 1970s. If you don't want to...

Whirlpool FL washers accumulate mold, class action lawsuit says

@arilab: Wow, someone that remembers Ampex! Alexander M. Pontienoff was a skilled engineer, but if it weren't for Bing Crosby bankrolling him...who knows what would have happened. Short story: Magnetic tape recording technology was one of our spoils of war that we took home from the Nazis...

    fave passenger jets

I thought you were an ordinary airliner connoisseur until you mentioned the Lockheed Constellation. The L-1049 was the greatest piston-engined airliner to ever fly - that's indisputable (the DC-7C was a distant afterthought). Trying to keep one flying today is unfortunately a different story...

    Storm windows

Storm windows are a good thing! They have kind of fallen out of favor, what with the TV people wanting to sell triple-glazed replacement windows. I mean, argon must be good, right? If you have single-glazed windows, then storms are your friend. Just make sure the little notches at the bottom...

    Dinner last night

Sorry, no pics, but my 8-year-old is learning about making yeast breads. Today was classic white bread - only 6 ingredients. And she knows how "the yeastes" work to make the dough "poofy". And how they get poofy again in the bread pans. And how its kind of gross how the yeastes eat the sugar...

    What smells like Downy?

Really? To me, there is no better smell than natural baby smell, plus clothes/blankets washed in Dreft. Having come from a home where fabric softener was never used, I might be speaking out of turn, though.

    fave passenger jets

Best smallish/mediumish passenger jet ever was the Boeing 727-100. Small cabin and 3 big engines. Plenty of surplus thrust for any conceivable situation. Now, every B-737-400 and subsequent models carry more people and weight with fewer engines and a smaller wing. There were some early...

    Tide Pods

I guess I would agree with those that question how a one-size-fits-all pod would be best. But I was kind of amused when the pod came "recently" to laundry. I don't think it's really a new idea. Years ago, early 1960s, there was a laundry product called the Salvo tablet. I think it was really...

Why did Whirlpool stop making the Calypso? Money-losing deal? I don't know.

Speed Queen fron the laundromat to the home

@mrb627: Yep, there's not a whole lot of reason to get excited about how accurately a machine can control fill temps when the mass of the inner and outer drum would swamp what the water temp could accomplish. My thought process has been stuck in top-loader world where there would be maybe...

    Classic Machines

If we get back to the point where premium disposable diapers are marketed, I'd say the Kitchen Aid Superba machines would be toward the top of the list.

    Duet 9400

My bad on the v-belt comment - I should have known better that it was a ribbed belt. Duh. I've replaced a couple of those ribbed belts in automotive applications - it seems that the tensioner and/or the idler device wears out before the belt and the smooth side of the belt sometimes wears out...

Whirlpool FL washers accumulate mold, class action lawsuit says

@whirlcool: I think you are talking about the General Aviation Revitalization Act. While there were a spate of lawsuits from parties with an interest in small airplane crashes in the late 1970s and early 1980s, it's useful to think why that happened. People that bought small aircraft tended...

Whirlpool FL washers accumulate mold, class action lawsuit says

@foxchapel: Tires rarely fail due to overinflation. If you're talking about the Ford/Firestone Ford Explorer fiasco, I can tell you that the suit wasn't brought or settled over overinflated tires. And the talk-radio favorite example of McDonald's coffee didn't end up making that woman rich...

    Bosch Bash

Hey, you fixed it! 99% of the population today probably couldn't do that. Now you have plenty of time to watch the Steelers send the Chiefs to a 1 and 8 record...or some better use of your time.

    Duet 9400

@dadoes: I have found that things like belt dressing just mask the symptom(s) of a bigger problem. While I'm far from a v-belt expert, in my experience, noise usually comes from misalignment, a low-tension issue or a worn belt that is riding low in the pulleys.

Here We Go Again Folks! Miele Needs New Brushes

@tolivac: There's been a great deal of power tool brand consolidation over the last few years. So much that I think that there are only 2 or 3 corporations any more that own all the well-known brands. I guess they have to do what they have to do to survive and please their investors. If you...
