GE in Talks With Suitors to Sell Iconic Appliances Business

Supersuds, I pondered on it while thinking back about some car industry mergers and sell offs in the past 10-15 years or more. There's been some interesting cases when a company and a brand name have been sold separately (Bentley & Rolls Royce) or when a brand has been protected from sale (Rover...

Bosch Siemens Home Appliances are Getting Divorced

Interesting. Siemens have been getting rid of a few of their "non-core" businesses over the past few years - a company I worked for previously bought out their IT business. Will Bosch be allowed to keep the Siemens name as part of the deal though, I wonder.

GE in Talks With Suitors to Sell Iconic Appliances Business

I can't see Whirlpool wanting (or being allowed) to buy the entire GE appliances operation. I could see them trying to get the Hotpoint name, so that they could control both the US and European Hotpoint names...

Odd Beko and some other new stuff

I was looking at those Smeg small appliances the other day - and I'm not entirely convinced. I don't think the branding being that prominent works on such small appliances, to me it looks a little comical on the kettle and blender particularly. Any idea who is making these for Smeg? At least...

New Hotpoint's Without Eco Wash Launched (FUTURA)

Ah. Maybe Currys had some newer models in store 'early' then (like about 3 months ago) as there were some like that then. One thing I noticed at the time was that, on condenser ones, the bottom of the range timer model had really tinny and cheap feeling buttons, but the sensor models felt a...

New Hotpoint's Without Eco Wash Launched (FUTURA)

That control panel doesn't look vastly different from the previous vented ones though, does it? All the vented ones I've seen in stores have had the dial in the middle and the smooth panel with text like that one.

    Zanussi Lindo washers & dryers

Interesting. I was wondering about the filters, as the AEG and Electrolux protex chassis machines all have them accessible from the front. It seems odd not to have one that's easily accessible for maintenance. I know a lot of the Electrolux group stuff is made in Poland - certainly the Ikea...

    Zanussi Lindo washers & dryers

Hmm, having looked around a bit further, it seems that some Euronics retailers are selling them too. Not the major retailers like Currys, John Lewis, Argos etc. as yet though.

    Zanussi Lindo washers & dryers

I'd not seen these mentioned anywhere, and it had completely passed me by until I saw an email from AO.com for a competition entry to win one. It looks like these may be the Zanussi branded machines using the base of the AEG protex machines, the dryers drums look similar and the cabinets also...

New LG washing machine May 2014

Hmm, I'm not convinced that'll work particularly well, but we'll see. I wonder if these LGs will let you add rinses to a quick cycle, I know some of the older ones wouldn't.

New LG washing machine May 2014

The main problem I see with all these ultra-efficient cycles that take hours and hours to do is that it will increase fabric wear. Particularly when people are buying cheaper clothes which are, obviously, made cheaper than they used to be. I can't imagine some cheap t-shirts surviving more than...

    My cousin's dishwasher

That's quite impressively melted - looks like it's melted from inside out though, which is weird. I wonder what happened.

    Smeg DC122W-1 dishwasher

Looks good - will be interesting to hear how it gets on over time, as in the past Smeg dishwashers have had a bit of a hit or miss reputation, where you either got a good one or a bad one, and nothing in between. Did this one come with the 5 year warranty? And how do you find it to load, as the...

New Hotpoint's Without Eco Wash Launched (FUTURA)

As far as I can see, there's nothing particularly new or interesting about them other than the name change, so that may be why there's not many comments on it. So, yes, I'd be more interested if it were a design change, although this design is better than the one or two previous to it. As for...

    Aqualits Glass just Smashed

George, if you're going to state facts like "Alot of hotpoint machines have had this happen recently." please have the courtesy to back that up with a link. I've not heard of this being a common occurrence with any brand, and would generally assume it to be a freak accident. Manufacturing...

    Cloud Connected Washer

It's not about making anyone "welcome" in the community or not - any idea that is created will have those in favour and those against. Some will succeed and many won't - look at James Dyson for example, and compare to the inventors of the Monotub. One is everywhere, the others not. If this guy...

    Asko W6461 snapped spider

If you bought it from ebay and via paypal, you should be able to claim some money back, although I'm not sure whether the onus would be on you or the seller to say whether the issue was there when purchased/collected. Have you worked on an Asko machine before? If not, may be worth getting a...

Those of you with Bosch Dishwashers (esp Older Models) I could really use some advice

I have a 10yr old Siemens which still runs without missing a beat. Never needed a single repair, touch wood.

    Cloud Connected Washer

I think it's a daft idea. It doesn't make it any easier to use, and it will (at least initially) be a higher cost I would guess. I don't see any benefit. I want my machine to wash, rinse and spin clothes, not tell me about it by phone or post it on facebook or the like.

    Asko W6461 snapped spider

Where did you buy it from, and have you tried asking for your money back if you weren't told there was a problem? You could try asking the UKWhiteGoods guys, as Asko make the ISE machiens for them.
