THEY CAME! MY NEW SQ SET!

Old 1970's era Canadian GE Filter-Flos had the same issue. They had all kinds of arcane symbols on the timer so you knew what was what. I remember there was a guide under the lid so you could figure out what the symbols meant. Some of them were intuitive. I think if I were to own one of these...

New Speed Queen front loader video!

Interesting to see how Alliance did away with pulse spins. I get the feeling that pulse spins really do nothing more than shorten the life of the machine anyway. On the upside though, watching a full load of towels go through a series of pulse spins results in a lot of "drama". (Like water...

    1995 GE washer demo

When I was looking at buying my 2004 GE machines, the salesperson at Sears demonstrated the washer using the phone book test, which I honestly found impressive at the time. The GE I had did suffer from the occasional unbalanced load where the tub would repeatedly strike the cabinet, but even...

W Laundromat now working with GE motor

What is the "glop" that you are using? Perhaps it might be worth it to strip all of it off and try using something else? It doesn't look like it is working too well IMHO?

So I've had that little Robert devil sitting on my shoulder

Wow.. I can't believe it has been six years since I've read this thread. I guess it is safe to say that my own machine is out of warranty now. Maybe by posting this, I might jinx things. Thanks to this thread, it gave me the confidence to make this minor modification to my machine. After I...

    LG Flagship TL Fail

The three videos which Logixx posted make me glad I didn't buy one of these. Waveforce seemed like an interesting technology to me, but watching the clothes just move back and forth without any rollover nearly makes me sick. I thought the waveforce technology was supposed to force the clothes...

    GE washer rinse cycle

GELaundry4ever, Look, this isn't a personal attack, but you need to read my responses. Ignoring my posts and then just reiterating what you said earlier in the post doesn't make you right. You didn't read a single word I wrote, did you? You tend to do this a lot and honestly I find it...

    GE washer rinse cycle

Panthera, I thought I should justify my remarks more closely.. > No other washer filters as well. No modern washer rinses as well. The Filter-Flo was designed at a time when people line dried their clothing, not everyone had a clothes dryer, so lint filtering was an absolute must. Since most...

looking for a new washer & dryer. ultimate in reliability: speed queen? miele?

meiwakudept, The Speed Queen front loaders are unique in that they use the same design in their heavy duty light commercial washers as they do in their residential washers. I have a front loading Huebsch (Same as Speed Queen, just for Canadians) and it does an absolutely fantastic job cleaning...

    GE washer rinse cycle

GELaundry, I think you are missing the point. Last time I checked, buying a new washer is a bit of an investment. We're not talking about buying a toaster here. Even when buying the lower end models, they should still be capable of rinsing properly, at least having the option of a proper deep...

    GE motors

I've always loved the sound that GE FF motors made. They were all very well designed and built. The motor from my parents old 1964-era FF does its duty as a polisher motor now. It still works, even after all of these years.

Out with the OLD! And in with the NEW== People !!

Here's an old thread on the other half of the equation, the dryer. I seem to recall the mechanical design for the console was very unique and probably cost a lot to engineer. There are a few good threads on here about it. The pointer was a chain drive with a complex system of geared pulleys...

    maytag neptune tl...

I've always thought that this style of washing was kind of strange, yet interesting. I wonder how effective it really is in comparison to conventional front loaders? Were the Maytag versions of this machine reliable? They seem so rare...

    transmissions

Just to chime in here... Maytag washers (Pre-Whirlpool) used a nylon drive gear in their transmissions, they were known for their reliability. Still are. It was a design decision made for reliability reasons, not for cost cutting reasons. I'm sure there are threads here which explain why this...

    Sounds of the Hoover Keymatics..

This is going to drive me nuts... Has anyone ever decoded how a keymatic card works? i.e. What exactly do the notches do? How do they work? I noticed on the older keycards, the notches look different and they're wider. I can't find any information on the net about them.

    Gas Dryers vs Electric Dryers?

Wow.. Old thread.. Just thought I'd mention that my utilities bill is about $30 a month less than it was when we had an electric dryer. Over the last few years I've had this gas dryer, it's paid for itself just in utilities savings alone. I'm glad I bought a gas dryer. It was well worth the price.

    GE filter-flo control panel

Heh, It's funny re-reading a very old thread that I created. It looks like the last year for the FF was about 1994, with a complete redesign happening sometime around 1995. In saying that, it looks to me like the only Filter-Flo to have electronics in it was the Infinite Vari-Speed, which I...

Former Apple Exec & engineer showing Combo Washer/Dryer at CES 2016

Last time I looked at buying a combo, it was a Euro style Ariston, cost an arm and a leg and took anywhere between 3-4 hours to wash and dry a single load of laundry with a 1.5 cu.ft tub. Mind you, this was nearly 20 years ago now... I'm glad to see that combos are making a comeback...

I got a Filter-flo doday! and now this....

With my Mom's old '64 Filter Flo, it would make loud "KA-BANG!" sound kind of like this, but much louder, once the brake engaged. It was a great way to let the entire house know that the washer was finished its cycle. :-) Part of me wishes machines still did this...

    Creme de la creme...

When I was looking at buying a Miele W4842 here in Canada, the washer was priced at about $2400, with a one year warranty. For each extra year of warranty I could add to it, it cost an additional $500. I bought a Huebsch (aka Speed Queen) washer instead because it was $500 cheaper, had 3x the...
