    Mattress Shopping :(

Single-Sided Mattress: I am currently getting ready to replace one of these inventions of Beelzebub, purchased just over five years ago when I moved to Waterloo and needed everything all at once. I did not have a clue about the single-sidedness until the damn thing was delivered. It cuts...

    Best Craiglist Ad Copy EVER

Kevin: Remember that the level of word imagery in CL ads is usually pretty low.... http://www.automaticwasher.org/cgi-bin/TD/TD-VIEWTHREAD.cgi?49639[this post was last edited: 1/23/2015-18:02]

I am absolutely delighted to be able to bring you this: "Older GE fridge, not the prettiest but it'll freeze the nuts off a penguin." http://dubuque.craigslist.org/app/4854838044.html

    Looking for opinions

Bill: That kind of floor furnace used to be called a "circulator." My grandparents in East Point, GA had one in their first house, purchased in 1948. It was located in the floor of the hallway, which was more or less centrally located within the floor plan. The running costs were low...

Guess what I found at Big Lots

Pete: You're right - our tastes change as we, uh, "mature," and childhood favorites may not be as wonderful today. I had that experience with Hot Ralston, a hot breakfast cereal I loved as a kid. Now, it tastes to me more like the box it comes in than anything else. Campbell's tomato soup...

    NEW COFFEEMAKER

Avoiding the Event: Is one of the reasons I'm so fond of my Farberware Superfast 12-cup perc, and the timed outlet on my vintage GE range. I get up, coffee's ready, end of Event. A couple of cups get consumed during the morning, to get me awake, and the rest goes into a high-quality...

Posting Multiple Links in One Thread?

Robert: Here goes: www.sunavagun.com www.atlanticocean.com www.pacificocean.com You see - only the first one shows up as a link.

Posting Multiple Links in One Thread?

Robert: Your method didn't work for me, but I can get two links in if I copy and paste one into the text, and put the other in the link box, as I did above.

It seems that AW only supports one link per reply.

Guess what I found at Big Lots

Fox's U-Bet: I love U-Bet, preferably in the Kosher for Passover version. It is different than other chocolate syrups - thinner, with a somewhat lighter taste. It mixes superbly well with soda for an egg cream.

Guess what I found at Big Lots

HFCS: In that part of my working life that deals with special-needs people, I have tried and tried and tried to impact on their consumption of HFCS-sweetened pop. The reason? Many of them are overweight, and some are obese, and all of them will do absolutely anything to get their hands on as...

    Farberware Oven Safety Correction:

Tim: Bev's tactic would reflect infrared away from the handles, so there could be a benefit. I think it would be a small advantage, if any. But it's making her feel like she's doing something to protect the handles, and that's worth something right there. God knows there's a lot that's...

Guess what I found at Big Lots

Stephanie: Your era was a little different from ours. Those shows I referred to were local. Basically, a local station bought a "package" of cartoons from King Features Syndicate or another entity, and hired someone to be a host with appeal to kids. The U.S.'s television markets were full of...

Guess what I found at Big Lots

Stephanie: Your avatar photo reveals that you're much too young to remember Bosco! The heyday of the product was the late 1950s through the middle 1960s. It was heavily advertised on "kiddie shows," like Atlanta's Popeye Club, L.A.'s Cartoon Carousel and even Waterloo's Dr. Max and Mombo...

    Fines Will Be Levied!!

Roger: I remember those days well - my first experience with computer anything was IBM mainframe using Hollerith (keypunch) cards. The greatest advance in computing was not Eniac. It was not random-access memory. It was not even the first Pentium chip. IT WAS THE DAMN BACKSPACE KEY! :)

    Farberware Oven Safety Correction:

John: It doesn't. I prize the condition of my Bakelite handles; I've seen too many rough and dull and blistered and cracked from oven and dishwasher use. If something needs the oven, there's Corning Ware a-plenty here in my house.

    Fines Will Be Levied!!

Achtung! You WILL register this unit! I'm guessing this was an FCC compliance issue, not a threat that Amana would levy a fine.

    Blenders

The Plastic Jar: Always looked smaller to me. I think it's just because it's thin-walled. I don't think you'd regret getting a glass jar. Especially if you can find one locally and don't have to pay shipping.
