    YYAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH! In your face!

If everyone threw out one piece of trash into the street every day, we'd have an enormous mess on our hands. But alas it is only a little piece of garbage so it's not so bad... It is wrong to justify wasteful resources usage based on thoughts that it is a 'minor' thing. We should all strive to...

Does DAB+ or HD Radio worry Anyone?

Here in the US HD radio will NEVER do in AM or FM broadcast. HD unfortunately hasn't caught on here due mostly to unfamiliarity. Own 4 HD radios and in my area the programming and service is excellent, people are just missing out of the improvements. Since HD is broadcast by the same AM or FM...

    YYAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH! In your face!

Not even looking at the issue of wasting resources, climate change, or even all the money I'm saving, I'm super pleased to only have ONE incandescent lamp in my house (self cleaning oven). The overall quality of the light is far and away superior with LED's, none of that dingy yellow. And I...

Woke up to beeping Noise (2005 Duet Dryer)

Hey Mark, Not sure if you are comfortable popping the board in and out yourself, but if you were these folks might be able to fix you up for $100 https://circuitboardmedics.com/whirlpool-duet-dryer-control-board-repair/ Check if your model is one of the ones listed. The first one mentions...

    Alarm Clocks

Tom, I've always wondered about the choice of 9 minute snooze cycles too. It seems pretty standard. A few years ago I ran across this catchy song, don't hate me if it is an earworm

    Interesting look at Japanese Appliances

I sometimes watch content from the YouTube channel Japanology. I ran across this video that highlights their appliances the other day. Interesting that they even have a vintage collector spotlighted at about the 22 min mark.

    Stoves without thermostats

I think they should build passenger cars that only have enough horsepower to only drive 65 mph... Same idea. And it would work equally well. I may have missed a comment as to why in the hell would this idea have any merit, I scrolled by half of the thread. I LOVE any system that has feedback...

    IMPORTANT EVERYONE PLEASE READ...

Standard 3.5" spinning hard drives are available today in a 15 (Fifteen!!) Terabyte size. A little maths for fun... This is equal to 10.7 MILLION floppy discs! Of a mere 21,400 CD-R's (which is stacked on top of one another would be 107 feet tall!) There are not SSD's (Solid State Drive)...

    New Dishwasher Shopping

The difference in running cycle water temps between a stainless vs a plastic tub will be so slight to not be of any practical advantage either way. What is a couple degrees in the grand scheme of things?

    SQ Twin Tub

Ted, that is a beautiful machine. I have wanted to get a twin tub for a while now and the SQ is likely the best of the options out there. I don't think I can justify one that is that close to new in the box though unfortunately. Any idea of how much money one gets for a kidney these days? lol

    Ants

The only Ant bait I ever had work as advertised was the Raid Double Control product. These come in a green box and the baits themselves are black with a translucent top. I recall having one of them that the ants really took to and I watched as they cleaned our the bait over the course of a day...

    TV antennas

Indeed the form of modulation has NOTHING to do with the antenna. RF is RF all that matters is the frequency... If the antenna is touting that it is a "Digital" antenna to me that is a red flag. Now back in 2007 when the transition hit, all the stations had to move into UHF frequency channels...

What's the most effective and quicket agent for removing hard water deposits and soap scum

A small thermonuclear device would likely be the "most effective and quickest"... But this violates the rule of cleaning that always says start mild and work up to prevent doing damage. I have never needed more then run of the mill CLR for any hard water deposits (soap deposits are easy), and...

    Kenmore/LG Board Failure

I'd go out on a limb and say that capacitor is DONE. For a better look pull off the black plastic insulator disc on the end and look at the aluminum can itself. My guess is that it is split and that cap is shorted.

    Pyrex Revisited...

It all comes down to the coefficient of thermal expansion of the material. All glasses are equally "heat resisting" as they all melt at more or less the same temperature. It is when glass is exposed to gradients of temperature causing part of it to expand or contract that internal stresses build...

What are the techniques used by a locksmith

As always look on YouTube! There are scads of locksmith'ing and picking videos there. If a picture is worth 1000 words, what is 60 pictures a second along with audio worth? ;) I enjoy this guys videos, although they are more often aimed at portable locks. He sure likes embarrassing MasterLock...

    Fix or Replace?

I like when polarity reverses on AC, it seems to do it a lot. From what I have seen it seldom causes problems ;)

    Fix or Replace?

Surges are often blamed, but not often the real cause of electronic failures. Certainly wasn't the reason the DW thermal fuses were failing. A whole home surge protector isn't a bad idea, but lacking a nearby lightning strike you are very unlikely to have a true surge related failure.

Cleaning Out 50+ Years Worth Of Appliance Parts

Been a couple decades since I last looked at that shelf. Pretty sure the aroma of old appliance parts will always be programmed into my brain though!
