My first vintage dryer...and its German...!

The bright sun is the indicator light for drying (heating as they say in the manual) and the half sun is the half heat button - pushed in to select half heat, out to select high heat. Then the fan is the indicator light for cooling, the broken line circle is for end/anti crease and the cross...

My first vintage dryer...and its German...!

AEG Lavatherm 610... Thank you foraloysius. I did see a picture of one with the white controls, but I think the brown just makes it look more rugged and vintage, haha. I would assume the AEG I had was the larger door opening. Almost the whole front panel was the door (operated by a push...

My first vintage dryer...and its German...!

Age... If memory serves, this machine was made in the '80s. Trust the Germans to have already been using sensor drying back then. Just for interest sake, when did sensor drying technology start getting introduced?

My first vintage dryer...and its German...!

@ronhic my mom's aunt got her's from a 2nd hand shop a few years back and worked like a dream and then it stopped heating so we sent it to my repair man, and after that very cheap repair it's going strong once more. A few years back I had an AEG Lavatherm 610 that was also quite a great dryer...

My first vintage dryer...and its German...!

Hi all! So Thursday night I was just browsing my local gumtree, and saw an ad for a *FREE* tumble dryer. And when I saw the picture, I just had to have it. Its German, has a glass door, and comes from the '80s...it's a Bauknecht! TRA 865 CD. I love it! My mom's aunt has the 860 and she loves it...

    Henkel buys Aussie C/P

Persil Ultimate/OMO Ultimate This might be a tad off topic, but a few months back a friend went to NZ to look at the possibility of emigrating (which he has now done) but when he came back he came back with a box of Persil Ultimate front load, which I understand to be the same as OMO ultimate...

    Lg washing machine flaw

LG 7KG DD FL... I have a 7KG LG direct drive FL (WD-12397TD) and I love it. I have noticed that LG drums are bigger than those of the other brands such as samsung, defy and whirlpool (from what I've seen in store here in SA) and that's the reason I went for my LG. It handles my queen size...

What's Considered Full Load For Your Machine?

LG 7kg FL I can get 10 pairs of my size 32 means into my 7kg LG DD FL and the drum is very full right to the top. That gets washed on the Bulky cycle with 1200 rpm final spin and because of the high wash and rinse level, everything comes out clean and we'll rinsed (3 rinses default on this...

What choice for a UK FL Purchase?

LG... Have you looked at LG? here in S.A. all our machines are euro, and the LG's are very good. Their 9kg do is pretty cool and I think on all LG front loaders you can lengthen the cycle with the intensive option, or shorten it with the time save option. And they still deliver good results...

    Thoughts on LG TurboDrum washers?

As a South African who has owned one and used a few... The turbo drum wash action isn't all its claimed to be. After we got our 13kg Samsung TL 5 years ago, I bought the little 8kg LG just to have as a 2nd machine, and because they were on sale for quite a good price. In the end, I sold it...

    Fabric Softeners -

We stopped using softeners about 4 or so years ago, not long after we got our Samsung TL, when my mom's aunt told us about the oils and fats in them and what they do to your machine (she had an almost 20 year old LG TL that was depositing black flakes into her loads, and when she phoned LG she...

DIshwashing Advice: Hand Washing With Auto Detergent

SA Hand Wash Habbits Here in SA, just about nobody rinses their dishes if they hand wash. And the most popular dish liquid we have (that I use) is Sunlight. And no, You never taste soap on any food or drinks. As Brisnat81 said, they soapy water just runs off while they on the rack. My...

DIshwashing Advice: Hand Washing With Auto Detergent

Hello all! Been a while since I've posted or even commented on a thread, but the student life has kept me busy, especially this time of year with final assignments being due soon. So, here's the situation I found myself in tonight: Last night I used the last of my dishwashing liquid (hand...

    Washing on TV

Stuart Little... Does anyone know what washing machine was used in the 1st Stuart Little movie? The one he got trapped in. I distinctly remember it was a front loader that looked to be designed like an american tumble dryer, in that the back of the drum didn't move, because it had a fill flume...

    Modern Frontloaders

LG... My 7kg LG DD front loader is 5 years old and was about MOL at that time. The "normal" cycle (cotton) does main wash, 3 rinses, final spin, with a spin after the wash and between all rinses. Synthetics and bulky is exactly the same just with a higher water level for washing and rinsing...

    American Top Loading Washing Machines

I've used commercial SQ top loaders many times when we're away on holiday and use the hotel laundromat. They're just as good as the "domestic" machines. And as I've always said, the only machine that can PROPERLY clean, rinse and spin a load in 30 mins (there or thereabouts) is a SQ. I don't...

    American Top Loading Washing Machines

Speed Queen I would definitely recommend the Speed Queen. Having used, bought and sold many Speed Queen and Whirlpool top loaders, the Speed Queen is definitely my pick of the bunch. We had a Speed Queen for 8 years and never had a days hassles (sold due to lack of space when we moved to my...

Persil Dual Action Capsules - VERY strong scent (don't like it!)

Ariel Power Capsules... ...as they are called here in SA claim to be the best things since sliced bread... they're not! Make way too much foam, dont clean as well as the powder, super heavily scented and the scent lingers for ages, and its not even a pleasant smell. Ane they are very expensive...

    Amway SA8 Liquid

Havent tried Amway or heard many good things, but Golden Products (GNLD) is pretty good. My mom and I use their Super 10 multi purpose cleaner as our stain remover spray, and it really gets those tough marks out. Their oxygen bleach powder is also very good. We get ours from a friend who sells...
