On a replacement pump the distance from the driven disc to the pump body may or may not be OK as I mentioned already farther up the thread in Reply #11. If too long the spring is over constrained and will "whip" . If too short the spring is in tension and the brass bushing on the disc will...

Does anyone else prefer front load washers with REAR control panels?

In the last example Joe and Jane usa six pack charged their credit card about 2000 thousand dollars. If they bought added service contracts; it might be 200 to 300 dollars more. State sales tax varies from ZERO to about 9? percent in the usa. The maker sold you two boxes at 200 each=400; this...

Does anyone else prefer front load washers with REAR control panels?

Front controlls help sell stands for washers and dryers! :) From a pure marketing viewpoint; a low profit margin, government supported tax kickback to maker water saving WASHER is used to hawk high profit margin sister devices. ie the DRYER and TWO BOXES/STANDS to lift these higher. slanted...

Not my auction; but a decent price if you want the older style pump as a collector for ie looks. Your impeller's 4 driven vanes are also well bent; this drops the gpm/flow rate. If the water tube nipple was bonded and it fails, you will flood the house...

Lowes must be totally insane; OR they are in some pre WW2 time warp. All the washers they sell have 3 prong 120 volt plugs; ie 1 hot; 1 neutral and 1 green wire ground. 16 awg is probably fine; even buying a 12 or 25 foot 14 or 16 awg grounded type extension cord will work.

With my rebuild to make inspection and work easier I raised the washer up via three pieces of scrap 2x6's under each leg. I had gobs of scrap wood after Katrina and used 2x6's so the washer's leg had more wiggle room when it was running. My washer I repainted the lower inside frame and bottom...

If the seal leaks a long time often the shaft #28 will be worn and corroded; thus a new seal may or may not fix a leak. For testing purposes as a crude fix a shallow darkroom tray or water heater pan or cooking pan will contain the leak on your floor. Some ancient FL westy pumps had a...

I am not sure if you pump uses the same seal as the newer white pump. Today folks often replace the pump. The seal at Bell is 1.40 ; item 32. http://lookup.bellparts.com/lookup/frigidaire/43086/00089129

The tub directly connects to the pump via the super short hose in your reply #6. If you add water to the tub; it drains through the "super short hose" then into the pump. Then it is ejected out the hose on the pump ; the one on the right. Not sure where you are saying it is leaking? the...

Back in the 1950's repair the pump was done at times; today few do this. I think the impeller may be different on your black pump than the current white pump. To add to the confusion; there are some black pumps molded out of the same mold as the newer white ones. The tube connecting to the pump...

There are a few pumps now on ebay. Search for "westinghouse pumps" or "Q137156" or "5300165317" too. Or "WCI pump". Do a serach by title and description when using the part numbers. Prices vary widely for these pumps on ebay and parts houses too. I have bought some for only 14 bucks with...

1952 refrigerator repair - please advise!

Long ago one just added some dye and pressurized the system with Freon to find the leak. Another 4th method was one used a torch and the leak made the flame change color! Today Freon is costly, plus the waste of purging Freon has fines. Like road speed limits; nobody breaks these laws.!:)...

1952 refrigerator repair - please advise!

Normally to find a leak a higher tech guy: (1) Pressurizes the system with Nitrogen; and uses an ultrasonic leak detector; (2) or they use a tad of freon and mostly Nitrogen and use a Freon stiffer. (3) Or a leak detector color dye is used. The "test pressure 150lb low side 202lb high...

Can you be SURE if it's Westinghouse?

In my current location we got water meters about 1976; before that it was unmetered. In a Detroit suburb back in the early 1960's we had no meter and had our own well.

    3 belt Fuchsware

A complete over center past vertical is possible here on my 1976 3 belt; BUT the danger is having the switches electrically short on the frame (exciting! :) or have a switch break mechanically due to contact. I once did this and broke the tub light switch eons ago! This of course is the back...

Can you be SURE if it's Westinghouse?

Sears did sell 3 belt washers, but not under an umbrella house name like Kenmore. Sears still has some oddball parts for 3 belt units. The commercial coin 3 belt unit was even once sold by Sears too. At a big Sears store in Los Angeles they had 3 belt Frigidaires. Where Sears sold what brand and...

RE: Did any of the later US models have reverse action tumbl The last variant of the usa westy had a German made torquer motor with an electonic; control board that allowed both directions of CCW and CW. Theses were roughly made from 1988 ish to 1993 ish. The older decaded old 3 belt until with...
