Barry, I have a vintage orange Fiesta Wear plate.  It is probably 60 or 70+ years old.  I was given the orange, green, blue, and yellow plates by a very dear friend who is 73 y/o.  These were the only pieces left of her mother's set that my friend, who was trying to show her mom she was a big...

Things that keep me up at night

Then the GM's got the Astro air with vents Oh my gosh!  I remember the much touted "Astro Ventilation"!   My oldest sister and her husband bought a new 1969 Chevelle Malibu in the fall of 1968.  Royal blue 2 door with royal blue vinyl upholstery and bucket seats.  Not only did it...

    Changing Bath Towels

I use a fresh bath towel amd wash cloth for each and every shower, usually twice per day.  Hand towels are shared between my wife and me and are changed when they "get wet" - approximately 3 times per day.  We use fresh kitchen linens each time we need them.  I keep a freshly laundered supply of...

The Lady Executive Hotpoint machine appears to have been one more fine washer!  I've never seen one but one day would love to see one in person!  If anyone on this board gets one I may just have to come visit you - especially if it is in excellent working condition!  Jim

Duncan hines has joined the club...

Bourbon red velvet cake... Sounds interesting.  Please share the recipe!    I've always preferred Duncan Hines cake, brownie, and muffin mixes over all the others.  My aunt took a cake decorating course at a local community college back in the early 70's and made decorated cakes on the side...

    Cake Takers & Storage

I have several of the Tupperwear cake toters as well as a Tupperwear sheet cake toter and a Tupperwear pie toter.  Occasionally I see them at Goodwill or Salvation Army.  Sometimes they are in good condition - sadly - sometimes not.  I have one very nice cake holder with a crome dome that was my...

Philisophical question on vintage appliance love/lust

Sorry about the above deletion My dad was not mechanically inclined.  He was a plumber until AR made him quit plumbing so he went to work as a carpetnter for a builder who built banks, churches, and small business buildings.  My brother, who was 18 years older than me knew my dad as a plumber...

What is the one appliance that you have, that must be TOL????

Wirlpool Gold side by side fridge with measured fill water.  Love it.  It was a gift from my mother-in-law before she passed away.  She had always wanted a side by side and said her daughter and favorite son-in-law would have one.  My parents always bought top of the line Sears appliances and my...

How to make clothesline clothes softer

Personally, nothing feels better on your fresh showered skin than a good scratching with a stiff crusty line dried towel.  I NEVER use fabric softner on my towels (whether line or machine dried).  Fabric softner reduces a towel's absorbtion rate.  I hate when all a towel does is roll the water...

The Help and Miss Minny's Pie

Hey Verne... I made this pie Saturday night for a cookout we had yesterday.  It was WONDERFUL!  Everyone loved it and "had" to have the recipe.  When I took my first bite of this pie I was reminded of the wonderful chocolate chess pie my Aunt Dora Lee made.  Aunt Dora Lee was my Mama's oldest...

    What is your favorite detergent?

Gain dish soap Hey Mark.  We love the Gain dish soap also.  Mr. Clean now comes in Gain original scent.  It leaves the kitchen and bath smelling wonderful when I mop with it.  Febreze also makes a Gain original scent air spray.  Have you seen or tried any of these?  Jim

    What is your favorite detergent?

Sears Ultra Plus in the orange box also.  After reading the reviews on this site I have recently been using  Gain original scent HE in the box.  I have been well pleased with this detergent and have been using it in  my towels and sheets.  Due to allergies, though, I have not been using Gain on...

    Abused cookwear

Le Creuset We have a couple of pieces of the LeCreuset ceramic bakewear I've picked up at T J Maxx.  My wife gave me the LeCreuset lasagna pan for Christmas a couple of years ago.  We enjoy them.  We do have two pieces of the Lodge ceramic over cast iron pots we bought at the Lodge Outlet in...
