    Huge (Really HUGE) Farberware Score!

IIRC: Hillbilly was a rather chunky bread--whole wheat AND chaff. I think RM was closer to 'normal' bread. I don't remember Hollywood (probably a regional brand), but I think I remember Rite Diet (surprised they could use the name, considering RC's Diet Rite soft drinks). We had a Bunny Bread...

    Huge (Really HUGE) Farberware Score!

yep I'd say that's the same line. I think her's were not as shiny/polished looking as in the photo of the This n That, but yes, the colonial-revival graphics, the recessed knobs on the lids. I only remember her having the basic 4 canisters, but now you mention it, I think she did have a bread...

    Let's talk CONVECTION cooking

We had a GE range (purchased new, mid 2000's) at our old house with a convection oven. We didn't use it a lot because we were unsure how to make time/temp adjustments to recipes. The times we did use it were typically when doing multi-rack baking--especially when doing multiple pizzas and that...

    Huge (Really HUGE) Farberware Score!

Nice job on the pan...but OMG! Your CANNISTER! I'm pretty sure that's the same as the set my grandmother had! Way to jar loose a buried memory for me!

    1976? Litton Microwave 418

oh yeah... This one probably wouldn't have had a glass plate. Ours just had the plain "floor". I don't really recall the plates except on Carousel-type microwaves.

    1976? Litton Microwave 418

Not much help, but... I think '76 is at least in the right neighborhood. My family's first microwave was probably bought around 1979 or so ('78 at the very earliest, but unlikely). It was a Litton, and the graphics are similar/same--I remember the Vari-Cook graphic for the power level knob...

What Did They Do To the Stove's Control Panel?

I agree With all the Sean Astin love. He does look particularly good bearded.

OMG, Becky! Look at the size of that...!

Pardon my ignorance But I have never seen anything like this. Is this the Flair for the laundry room? Is that tall backsplash a hang-drying cabinet?

    Loudest and Quietest washing machines

A bit limited experience I'm not as fortunate as some of you to have extensive memories of many classic machines, but if my memory is accurate, my Grandmother's mid-60's RCA-Whirlpool TL was remarkably quiet--just a gently undulating hum. I have no real recollection of what the spin sounded...

    Favorite Movie or TV Kitchen

FINALLY!!!! Thank you Gansky1! Aunt Bea's RCA-Whirlpools are the exact year (possibly the exact model) as my grandmother's washer (hers was white, and I thought it had a couple more of the black buttons, but I can't swear to it. I keep seeing machines on here that are close, but not quite...

anyone know how to unclog the rinse agent dispenser on a KA DW?

I wonder... if boiling a kettle and CAREFULLY pouring the hot water into the filler opening would help, if the agent is actually congealed in there. And/or perhaps some white vinegar? (Boil some vinegar???) My KA DW has a float in a little window, and as I use it regularly, has never...

What is the WORSE washer you have ever owned

2 entries here... I've never owned a truly bad washer, although I would nominate my 1998 Maytag "Dependable Care" TL whose timer dial stripped sometime around 2005 or 2006 (and at that, had spent a 9 month 'vacation' in storage in between houses). I could have had it repaired, I'm sure, but I...

Why did GE abandon the filter flo design?

Probably a combination of factors As we all know, cost is king in corporate decisions. But probably changing tastes/requirements/fashions in the consumer base played a part as well. My mom had GE Filter Flo machines in the 70s and 80s. I think she probably left her last GE pair with the house...

    Cloth-covered appliance power cords.

Thanks, Kevin and Dustin It was indeed a Sunbeam toaster--now that you say it, I can totally see the Sunbeam logo above the sliding lever for the darkness.

    Colorized Appliances

Colorization...FEH! My DVD box set of Bewitched sadly has the colorized early seasons, and the look varies from "meh" to "that's SO wrong!" And unlike Lucy, the colorizers DID have references for many of the correct prop/set colors. The worst part is that they didn't colorize anyone's teeth...

    Cloth-covered appliance power cords.

I remember my mother's appliances when I was a kid in the 70s were a mixed bag, mostly plastic cords, but some cloth cords. Most of her standard appliances were from the 60's--married in 1964. I'm pretty sure her waffle iron had a cloth cord, but I know her toaster had plastic--and an odd...

    What's Wrong With This Picture?

Brady Excess! OK, I was able to defend Betty Draper's 2 coffee pots, but watched a season 2 ep of The Brady Bunch with THREE visible coffee pots: one electric percolator, the aforementioned Corning cornflower, and a smallish avocado-green painted or enameled stove-top one. Plus, one would...

    What's Wrong With This Picture?

Matt I bow to your firsthand knowledge of that percolator. My mom's electric was a Westie and I think it had a detachable cord, but the controls were built into the pot, which seems pretty common for coffee pots, electric skillets etc from the 60s. (Or maybe we were just poor! Yeah, that's...

    What's Wrong With This Picture?

More double percolators We watched some Brady Bunch last night from season 2, and noticed they had a Corningware blue cornflower percolator on the back counter, but I've never seen it in use.
