George Foreman grill. Should it stay or should it go?

I guess it's unanimous... Thanks for the frank input. I'll escort the "Lean, Mean Grilling Machine" to the dumpster since it seems like just another piece of incompetent kitchen clutter.   I just checked what they're selling for on Facebook Marketplace. $5 to $17.  Mostly hovering around the...

I need a dome for an Oster Blender lid.

MANY years ago, back in the 90s, I was getting tired of the crappy, non-descript kitchen appliances on the market when I stumbled on what was being sold as a retro blender by Oster. It was a riff on the old "beehive" blenders and the glass mixing vase and metal motor housing were being pushed as...

George Foreman grill. Should it stay or should it go?

I have inherited many, many kitchen gadgets, most of which I really have no use for so I intend on selling most of them. One item that's giving me problems is the George Foreman Grill that were so popular a few years ago.   I haven't used it, but would like to see if there's a consensus if...

What are today's most economical foods at the store?

I'd like to see what I can do to control my food costs.  Back in the day when I was first living on my own (I will let you guess the decade, but think pooka shells) , the rule of thumb was that fish, root vegetables, "greens" and beans  were valuable in stretching the food dollar, but today it...

Does anybody know this very old hot plate?

Cole: Many thanks for the link. I appreciate the leg work you did on the hot plate.   Paul: the original pug was gone by the time I got it.   This week, I think I'll do a continuity and current leak test. Let's see how that goes. I'd love to get this back in safely operating condition.

Does anybody know this very old hot plate?

My mistake... I just looked at the switch again. It's a rotary, three heat (HIGH MEDIUM LOW) position switch, plus an off.   The top plate certainly looks like solid ferrous metal.  Do you know what kind of heating elements it may have? I had assumed it was a "spring" heater.

Does anybody know this very old hot plate?

Several years ago I bought his little hot plate thinking it was a piece of domestic kitchenware. It has no markings on it but there is a ceramic switch marked HI and LOW and it looks very much like something in a 1912 catalog I have. The plug is missing. I have not tested it.   I was looking...

Need a new power cord for Sunbeam Toaster 1B14

Thanks for the answers... Paul: Egads! I did wright "Sunbeam"! I can only assume my wires crossed because I am also working on my Aunt's Sunbeam Model 11 mixer, which is missing a part or two and I am working on a posting for it.   Jon: Thanks for the coaching offer, if I get into trouble...

Need a new power cord for Sunbeam Toaster 1B14

I have my grandmother's Sunbeam Toaster 1b14 (circa 1956). The unit has a worn-out power cord that should be replaced, with a ground wire if possible.   Does anybody make a look-alike woven cord to replace it with? I know the antique fan crowd has something similar, but the two wires are left...

Who wants a Westinghouse 60's washer? Trailer included

Here's a 1957 Hicks vintage trailor for sale in New Mexico. Original appliances included. All this can be yours for $2500. (And actually, if I were still in Palm Springs, I'd consider it.) https://lascruces.craigslist.org/rvs/d/sacramento-1957-hicks-travel-trailer/6835132764.html

    Vintage Maytag ball hinges

Gone are the days... Back in the 90s, I lost my balls and went to a Maytag repair shop to buy a few. The counter man just handed me a small fist full (about 6) and said "here you go kid, on the house."

    Our Dream Kitchen

Phenominal This is one of the very best recreations of a mid-century kitchen. Astonishingly good, without a hint of parody or exaggeration.

Is it worth making mayonnaise at home?

We go though a lot of mayonnaise, and I am looking to see if it's more cost effective to make it at home. Does anybody have any experience with this? (I've read up on the process and I think I know what I'm getting into.) What is the shelf life? I've read about a week. Is there an improvement...
