Ralph, I can bake two loaves of banana bread, or other quick bread, and with convection "on" both loaves bake evenly.

Anyone want a Breville Smart Oven or other big ticket item from Williams-Sonoma?

I have a covered Graniteware 9 x 13 roaster. The lid handles are placed on the ends, rather than the top, so that it clears the heating elements of the Breville Smart Oven. So I can use the roaster with lid on or off. As Bob/Appnut explained, only big jobs (four pies at once; sheets of cookies...

Anyone want a Breville Smart Oven or other big ticket item from Williams-Sonoma?

I bought the Pro version as a gift for a neighbor (as a thank you for many, many favors) in fall 2015. At that point they were selling both versions, and I believe the Pro was on sale for $249. As others have said, it has the light and a slow cook function. The classic version's cook time is...

What do people think of the new Persil available in USA?

I have used Persil Color Megaperls, brought home from trips to Germany, for years with superb results. As a test, I recently bought some Persil Power Perls from walmart.com. These are marketed as a "universal" powder (supposedly good for both whites and colors), in part because Americans aren't...

    HVAC central air in particular

Carrier 3 ton unit, installed September 2015 in a 27 year old home that was built as "AC ready" (all ducting, cabling, 220V outlet in place and ready to hook up). Not only does it do a great job of keeping the house cool, but it's amazingly efficient. I am a customer of San Diego Gas & Electric...

Anyone want a Breville Smart Oven or other big ticket item from Williams-Sonoma?

Too bad Breville is excluded. I bought mine at a W-S during a 10% off sale that included Breville products. I had discovered a long-lost $150 gift certificate (certificate---before there were gift cards!!). Price was thus $225, so I paid $75 difference plus tax on $250. I"ve had mine at least...

Anyone want a Breville Smart Oven or other big ticket item from Williams-Sonoma?

If so, act now. They are having a 20% off sale if your order is over $200 (code: SAVEMORE, though offer valid at stores also) and 25% off if over $500. This brings the normal price of a $250 Smart Oven (generally never discounted, including Amazon which also sells for $250) down to $199, plus...

Military Base Housing.. Did any one else grow up around it? Do you remember...

Dad was active military for only 2 1/2 years. The rest was in reserves. We had basic base access but no PX or Commissary privileges. The retired people who did enjoy such access were usually career military (> 20 years service). Also, we used to eat at the officers' mess in Point Loma (the...

Military Base Housing.. Did any one else grow up around it? Do you remember...

My father was an office in USN 1954-7, stayed in navy reserves 1957-69, retiring with rank of Lieutenant Commander. By the time I was born, with my father in reserves, we had no PX or Commissary privileges, but did have basic base privileges, and we lived one block from San Diego's Naval...

    New Electrolux Laundry

Sorry to jump in late in the discussion. I have the earlier 60 model and am very happy with it---except for the touch to open door which is a needless add-on. Wide choice of cycles. You can increase water levels with the Max Fill option. Some of the cycles, in particular the Allergen cycle...

What do people think of the new Persil available in USA?

I bought a bottle of PowerPerls online from Walmart.com, shortly after its introduction, but never bothered to try it until I saw this thread. I did a load of colors (mostly pastel shirts and light colored khakis) on Warm in an Electrolux 60 FL, using Normal cycle. I use 1-2 tbsp (15-30 ml) per...

i wish modern top loads and modern front loads of today would bring back the hot water wash with war

My 2006 Frig 2140 FL--in its eleventh year of flawless service, the last 18 months in my neighbor's laundry room, since i gave him the machine---has Warm wash/Warm rinse, but it did not have Hot wash/Warm rinse. The only rinse option for Hot wash was Cold rinse.

    Waffle Irons...

my Hamilton Beach Flip N Fluff waffler iron is the best Bought ten years ago on Amazon. Stores in a compact space and stands up for storage. Made with two top sides and no bottom. Fill with batter, close, turn it over, and it makes thick Belgian waffles. It achieves the same result as much...

    Washing Machine Opinions, Please!!

My original Frig FL 2140, now in service at my neighbor's house, turns ten years old this month. No service calls or maintenance issues whatsoever in ten years. No bleach used; powder detergent in warm or hot water. The reason I bought the Elux pair was that the neighbor was between jobs when...

    Washing Machine Opinions, Please!!

I've owned an Electrolux 60 series washer for 18 months now, no service or performance issues whatsoever. I cost me $900 net after rebates were receieved (water district, gas co., manufacturer). The series 50 is basically the same machine minus a few cycles and routinely available for under $800.

    Electronic typewriters

Later Selectric models had the correcting tape. It could lift off up to one line of text, so it must have had a primitive memory. Each time you depressed the key, it would lift off the most recent character typed. If you held the key down, it would backspace-lift off-backspace-lift off etc...
