Simpson dryer in Adelaide up for grabs

It really is a lovely example. It was a nod to Australian houses that the lint trap could be configured to vent into the room, or to be vented outside.

Simpson dryer in Adelaide up for grabs

These are nothing like a Maytag. It should be a perforated drum with a broiling element as far as I’m aware.

How to wash even better with your Whirlpool washer

That’s a lovely manual. Thankyou for sharing. My later manual from 1979 is nowhere as descriptive as this.

Replace or Repair Speed Queen Top Load Washer

I thought the new SQs were supposed to be immune from this. So many of the Raytheon built Ones here ended up like this at about the 10 year mark. What causes this type of failure? Water seal failure?

    Blackstone Tub Puller

Was it designed to pull the hub up and off the rusted centre shaft? That looks like it has some serious pulling power. Luckily over here, Hoover went to stainless shafts by the early 80s

    New Washer Day this Thursday!

Jeff, the rest of the world has been using suspended tubs since the mid 80s without issue. As long as they’re designed properly, they are just as good as a milk stool support.

Cycle set and forget or are you a control freak too?

Alexander, I agree with you there. In our W1, we use cottons, delicates, shirts and power wash. All of the other cycles don’t get touched. Options wise, it’s Short, water Plus and steam. The Fisher Paykel toploaders also let you skip steps of the cycle, to let you skip through till the end.

Best disposers -- vintage or modern?

Hey Mark, we find the same with our relatively new ISE Evolution 200. Citrus rinds will quite often need a second lot of food waste to get them done, otherwise they bounce around forever. What I do love is how silent it is. If you have the plug in on the disposer and on the other side of the...

    Whirlpool Gold Catalyst Direct Drive

Matt, it’s working, why not enjoy it. Every time you take something apart, you run the risk of breaking something. Just enjoy the unique machine that you have.

    Help! Speed Queen TC5003WN questions.

Speed Queen in AU has had those plastic hoses since they landed here in the 80s. I’ve never seen one split. Whirlpool from 1990 till 2013 had the plastic hose with a rubber gooseneck, again it never broke. The two did whirlpools we’ve had wore out in 15 years and the hose was still fine. Your...

    Help! Speed Queen TC5003WN questions.

I think your overthinking the drain hose. The rest of the world has had corrugated plastic hoses since the 80's without issue and even the US has for the last 20 years. I wouldnt worry about it.

Add temperature regulation to a vintage ironer

Simmerstat is just another word for variable temperature control. It likely cycles the element on and off with different ratios based on what number it is set to. Until of course you get to full and then the element stays on until it’s hotter than the sun. Why wasn’t an infrared thermometer...

Add temperature regulation to a vintage ironer

Hi Adam I assume that control is a replacement, because originally it should’ve either been labeled with dots. My Miele ironer from the late 60s lists fabric types and dots on the dial. Could you try with an instant read thermometer measuring the temp of the plate and then just have a guide...

    "big three" cars,trucks-Canadian versions :)

Does the Aussie made Ford Falcon count? It was built here from 1960-2014. By the late 60s, it was essentially an Australian designed and built car. They kept the I6 engine and added a turbo in the early 2000s with some serious power from a 4L 6

    Miele: silence the welcome tune

There’s not a lot Miele can do for you via email. Why not just call? I had an issue with our coffee machine, I wanted to reset the brew settings and there was nothing in the manual about how to reset defaults on the default profile. I rang Miele, got an Australian and she also couldn’t find...

    Champion (Parnall) Spin-Washer - Disassembly.

Chris is right. Penrite are the bomb. I needed a long obsolete Shell oil for the bronze bushes in my Malleys, I emailed penrite and they came back with a non detergent oil for vintage motorcycle shock absorbers that was apparently a modern equivalent. It cost me $25 to order online.

Miele W5000 WPS Super - Is it a Little Giant under the skin

Hi Rich, I have a crate of parts. The inner/outer tub and the cabinet are all that was junked. I still have everything else.

    Miele WKH130 WPS

Hi Henrik, We’ve got two of these, one at ours and one at mums, one has the early programming and one is updated from when the twindos pump failed and Miele replaced it. It does seem to predominantly be the twindos settings that vary between the two. In the early software, the setup of...

Miele W5000 WPS Super - Is it a Little Giant under the skin

Thanks Henrik, were there others with three friction dampers, was it because they were fitting 8kg into the older style drum. I’ve just not seen any other mieles with three dampers.

Miele W5000 WPS Super - Is it a Little Giant under the skin

I have a W5000 Miele and recently a scrapped one the same because the baseplate was full of rust and holes. When I was scrapping it, I found that it had three friction dampers, rather than the 2 I'm used to and also that the Shipping struts that fit almost all other domestic Mieles aren't long...
