The Economat . . . . . . washer was presented as an improvement over the Bendix front loaders that had to be bolted to the floor to keep from "walking" during the spin cycle. The spin cycle of the first front loaders was only about 200 rpm and did a poor job of extracting compared to other...

We had a Thor . . . . . . when I was growing up. It was a fine machine. Did its job well, but you had to be there to go from wash to spin and then rinse and spin. I don't remember why my parents got rid of it. We had friends that had the Thor washer AND dishwasher. The dishwasher did a...

In the early 1950's I saw and used . . . . . . a wringer Apex washer with the spiral agitator. Interesting contraption. Jerry Gay

    Spin-dryer!

I have had a . . . . . . Spin X brand extractor for 20 years. They are wonderful and cut down on the drying time tremendously. You can pack it tight. But be sure to put the red cap on top of the clothes before turning on the machine. If not the clothes will work their way over the side...

Early 50's HotPoint Dish Washer for sale

I have a feeling . . . . . . that dishwasher is very early 1950's or even late 1940's. Looks to me like the top rack does not move on its own rails but simply sat on the bottom rack and had to be lifted up and out in order to load the bottom rack. They were good machines but, of course...

    Dishwasher choice

I've got the F&P . . . . . . dishdrawer for nearly 10 years and love them. No problems. I like being able to do small loads without the feeling of wasting water. They're quiet and work very well. Jerry Gay

    Help !!!!!

I've got . . . . . . a Speed Queen front load. Love it. If you choose hot water, that's what you get. It holds a great deal of laundry. I've done rugs, queen sheets (don't have a king), queen quilted spread . . . it does it's thing quietly. For the "whites" cycle, it takes 50 minutes...

    Speed Queen (or other) decision

All I can say . . . . . . is that I brought home a SQ FL from the Beltsville Wash-In in August, and I am very pleased with it. Clean clothes and quiet operation. Jerry Gay

I have a 1959 Duomatic . . . . . . which has worked flawlessly for many years. It does exactly what it's supposed to do and has never had a problem. The Bendix noises are music to my ears when it is running and changing cycles. Low-sudsing detergent is all that's ever been used in it by me...

Looking real . . . . . . good!!! Way to go!!!! Can't wait to get home and see it in action. Beautiful machine. Jerry Gay

Speed queen FL mold & mildew smell

Addendum . . . Some years ago, I had a Whirlpool Duet set -- FL. Left the door ajar and never had a mold problem. Had that machine for 10 years. The washer was better than the dryer. Jerry Gay

Speed queen FL mold & mildew smell

I came home from . . . . . . the Beltsville, MD wash-in with a SQ front loader. I love it. It's quiet and washes great. When you choose HOT water, that's what you get. It spins out almost all of the water, and the clothes are practically dry when it's finished. True, it's been only since...

    1959 Philco-Bendix Duomatic

I have a 1959 Duomatic . . . . . . though not quite as fancy as Robert's. It works great. I find that the dryer does a good job in about 40 minutes. If I happen to be around when it's ready to go into the dry cycle and can re-spin the load in my F&P, it will dry in about 30 minutes. I try...

    Gentle Annie reaches retirement age

I have to agree . . . . . . with the positive comments about F&P washing machines. Mine is over 10 years old with never a problem. It washes well, spins fast, and the electronic control is easy to use and can be changed at any point in the cycle. Way to go Fisher & Paykel!!! I'd love to...

OUT WITH THE QUEEN AND IN WITH THE ELITE

Such a shame . . . . . . What age is the SQ? I have had one only a few months and I love it. I hope your Kenmore gives you good service. Jerry Gay

    Reverse tumble dryer

My Fisher & Paykel . . . . . . reverses. I have never had anything to ball up while drying. It might take a couple minutes longer to do a load because the heat (gas) does not come on during the reverse tumble. Jerry Gay
